She is a medium energy girl who loves chasing a tennis ball, going for car rides, and soaking up attention from anyone willing to give it. She is ready to leave shelter life behind and start her next adventure with a family ready to love her as much as she will love them. Fran has comfortably shared playtime with groups of three to five dogs of all sizes and would do great with or without a canine sibling. She has not been around cats but her friendly and social nature suggests she would likely do well with proper introductions and some time to adjust. She greets bigger and smaller humans alike with a wagging tail and great enthusiasm, so she would do best with dog-savvy kids who can provide some structure and boundaries around their initial interactions. Fran is a smart, eager to please girl who is already working on her fetch game and will pick up house manners quickly with consistency and guidance. Since she is coming from a shelter environment, she will benefit from patience as she learns household routines and settles into home life. She has done well on leash the few times she has had the opportunity and is a fantastic car rider too. This loyal, loving girl is ready to pour her whole heart into a forever family. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
