She is a medium energy gal who loves splashing in the lake, playing with her toy basket, chewing on nylabones, and then curling up at your feet or snuggling on the couch. She would be a wonderful fit for just about any home ready to welcome her easy, affectionate nature. Helga takes her time with proper hellos when meeting new dogs but settles in beautifully once introductions are complete and has done wonderfully in her multi-dog foster home. She has not been around cats but shows no prey drive and would likely do fine with proper introductions. Her gentle and calm personality suggests she would do well with kids too. Helga is an entertaining girl who has been known to arch her back like a cat when she gets out of her crate in the morning and loves to drape herself along the back of the couch. She is fully crate trained and eats her breakfast in her crate before spending the rest of her day happily out and about. She is fully house trained on a consistent daily routine. She gets very excited when the leash comes out and does well on walks, still finding her footing with her growing puppy legs. This sweet, laid-back girl is ready to find her forever family and bring all her gentle charm along with her. Could Helga be the one for you? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
