Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ THIS IS A COURTESY POST ONLY. THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL ARF DOG. THIS DOG WILL BE SPAYED BY THE OWNER PRIOR TO ADOPTION. Atris is a 3 year old female Siberian Husky who weighs in at 40 pounds. If you are still interested, please read more below. Atris was rescued by her humans about 1.5 years ago from the breeder she came from. She was getting rehomed because of the previous owners’ health issues. It is suspected she was severely abused by either the breeder or past owner – she is a very nervous dog. She does eventually warm up to you and loves to cuddle with you. She loves long pack walks and loves running around with the other dogs that live in the house. Atris is good with most dogs – she tends to prefer them over humans. However, she doesn’t do too well with dominant female dogs. She is mostly housetrained, but she needs a lot of outside playtime or long walks so that she doesn’t potty in the house. She walks with a pack fine, but on a leash by herself she tends to be all over the place – so additional training will be beneficial! Her favorite treat is frozen goat milk. Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: .arf-il/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit .arf-il/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events. Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!

Breed overview
Siberian Husky
A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
