Description
Dog Breed: Tibetan Terrier (medium coat). Meet Jax, the 2 year old Tibetan Terrier. Jax was surrendered to the Shelter after he was not getting along with another dog in his previous home. Staff have observed that Jax is a fairly easy going guy with people â comes out of his kennel to say hi and join them for walks and play time. Jax has met several dogs at the Shelter and has been neutral after a brief meet ân greet. Based on Jaxâs history, we are requiring that Jax is the only dog in the home. His previous guardian reported some resource guarding of high value items. This may be a contributing factor of his conflict with the other dog in the home previously. Jax would thrive with a conscientious guardian who will not bring him to, or put him in social situations that will stress him out, such as dog beaches, dog parks, or cafes where people gather with their dogs. Jax may develop dog friends to go on hikes with and coexist with but does not seem to enjoy or gravitate towards playing with, or sharing spaces or resources with them. We do not have history of Jax with children or other species of animals. Jax has been around teenagers. Jax is a breed that will need regular grooming, likely with a professional. Adopters should consider this as it will be an added regular time and/or captial expense needed to keep him happy and healthy. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them

Overview:
The Tibetan Terrier, often called the "Holy Dog of Tibet," hails from the remote monasteries of Tibet, where they were revered as companions to monks and herders, not true terriers in the hunting sense. These charming dogs boast a distinctive, shaggy double coat – a soft, woolly undercoat and a fine, long outer coat – that provided insulation in harsh climates and comes in a variety of colors. Physically, they are medium-sized with expressive eyes and often sport a characteristic forelock. Temperamentally, Tibetan Terriers are known for being intelligent, loyal, and surprisingly agile. They are generally good with children and other pets, making them suitable for active families. Their adaptable nature also means they can thrive in apartment living provided they receive adequate exercise and mental stimulation. While generally a healthy breed with a lifespan of 12-15 years, potential owners should be aware of possible genetic predispositions to conditions such as Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and luxating patellas. Regular grooming is essential to maintain their beautiful coat and prevent matting.
