He is a low energy guy who would be perfectly happy with a couple of walks each day followed by plenty of lounging around with his people. He is looking for a relaxed, patient home ready to help him learn the ropes of home life and love him every step of the way. Floyd has been around several dogs at the shelter and approaches new friends with a calm, easy confidence. He would do great with or without a canine sibling. He has not been around cats but his easygoing nature suggests he would likely do fine with proper introductions. His friendly, relaxed personality would likely do wonderfully with kids looking for a four-legged buddy to hang out with. Floyd is a smart boy who has been living in a shelter environment and will benefit from patience and consistency as he adjusts to home life. With structure and guidance he is likely to pick up household manners quickly. As he settles in, crate and house training will be areas to work on together, and he will continue to improve with a solid routine. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
