This lower-energy lady can be on the shy side at first, but don’t let that fool you—once she gets to know you she blossoms into the most loving girl. Spice is looking for a loving home where she’ll be appreciated for her wonderful demeanor and be able to build her confidence with the support of her forever family. Spice isn’t the type to show all her cards when she first meets someone. She needs a little time to sniff and warm up, and then she’s all love and cuddles. Spice is great with other dogs and enjoys meeting cat friends, but will leave them alone if they aren’t interested in playing. She hasn’t met kids yet but she’s so gentle that she would likely do great with dog-savvy kids who will let her approach at her own speed. While she enjoys playing ball and chewing on sticks, Spice is an independent lady who doesn’t mind being left alone to take a peaceful nap on her own. Spice is both house and crate trained, making her an easy addition to a new home. Like any dog, she may need time to adjust to new routines, but she will happily hang out in her crate overnight without any fuss. Spice is good on her leash and loves treats—snacks are the way to heart—which makes training her easy and fun! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
