Description

Dog Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer (short coat). Meet Bogey! This 43 lb German Shorthaired Pointer is pretty much guaranteed to steal your heart the second you meet him. True to his breed, he’s athletic and fun, but he comes with a surprisingly mild, gentle, and sweet temperament that makes him an absolute dream to be around. Bogey is the ultimate Velcro dog whose favorite activity in the world is curling up right in your lap for a good nap. He is eager to please, settles into new environments effortlessly, and gets along fantastically with pretty much everyone—kids of all ages, the elderly, big dogs, and little dogs under 20 lbs (but not cats!). Best of all? He’s a total gentleman who doesn’t jump up on people. Here’s a quick snapshot of life with Bogey: Personality & Temperament: Exceptionally loving, calm, and sweet. He’s a gentle soul who just wants to be part of the family. Exercise Routine: High-energy when it’s fun time! He stays happy and healthy with about an hour or two at the dog park most days a week. House Rules & Manners: Fully housetrained! He has fair leash manners, knows Sit and Stay, and handles being left alone for 1–2 hours like a champ (he loves having access to a dog door so he can pop outside) when he has other dogs for company. He does not care for the crate, but he’s content being free-roaming in the home. Couch snuggles are his absolute favorite. Car Rides & Play: He loves car rides! When it comes to toys, soft plushies are his jam—though he considers it his personal mission to surgically remove the stuffing. Good Habits: Zero digging, zero fence jumping, and zero destructive chewing (plush toys aside!). He only does a quick, polite alert bark at night if he hears something unusual. Things to keep in mind: You will fall head-over-heels in love with him. Also, at 43 lbs, he may counter surf if delicious things are left within reach—so you’ll just want to keep food pushed back! Bogey is a truly exceptional GSP who would thrive in almost any loving home that has kids, small or large dogs, or active family members who are mostly home. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who balances dog park fun with epic lap-snuggling, Bogey is ready to meet you! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: norcalgsprescue/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Bogey's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: norcalgsprescue/available-dogs/. Overview:

The German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) is a versatile and elegant sporting breed, originating in 19th-century Germany where it was developed for hunting various game. Physically, GSPs are known for their athletic build, sleek coat (typically liver or liver and white), and intelligent, expressive eyes. They possess a strong, muscular physique that enables them to excel in diverse activities. Temperamentally, GSPs are energetic, intelligent, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. Their loyal and affectionate nature means they thrive on human interaction, but their high energy levels necessitate ample daily exercise to prevent boredom or destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless their exercise requirements are exceptionally well-met. Regarding health, GSPs are a relatively robust breed, though they can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, eye conditions, and certain cancers. Responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups are crucial for maintaining their well-being.
