Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Alfie (A143155) is an 8-month-old pittie who weighed under 30 lbs at intake but needs to gain some weight. 08/22/26 This super sweet kiddo is Alfie! Alfie arrived at the shelter as a stray in poor condition. After waiting out his straty wait, Alfie is now looking for a loving home to call his forever! Alfie has had a rough start in life and needs some help mastering basic doggie habits, such as kennel training and potty training. Alfie has likely suffered from malnutrition and extended periods of time in a kennel, so he is bit gangly and awkward and small for his age. With proper nutrition and husbandry, he can be a great dog! Alfie has lots of love to share, and he gives it freely! We do not know his history with other animals or kiddos, so please err on the side of caution if planning to introduce him to other dogs, cats, or children. Make sure all introductions are done in a slow and controlled manner. If you are interested in meeting Alfie, please give us a call!

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
