Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Baby Blue â the husky adolescent. Baby Blue arrived to the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. He is an energetic, engaging guy who has been interested in being friends with just about everyone since his arrival at the Shelter. Typical to a pup his age, he pulls excitedly on leash and is ready to go out for an adventure. Adopters should ensure they are prepared to take on the needs of an intelligent, high energy dog as he will require above average mental and physical stimulation in the day to day. Baby Blue has met a female husky around the same age and size and enjoyed playing with her. A canine friend in his adoptive home may be a fit after a meet ân greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Baby Blue with cats or children. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week. Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
