Posted Breed: Rottweiler (short coat). Meet Memphis! Memphis got his name from the lead character in "Gone in 60 Seconds", because he will steal your heart in a minute. Memphis is a super sweet Rottie that was found wandering the streets hoping that someone would help him. Well unfortunately he ended up at BARC. Luckily for him he has a super personality and the instant we met him, he charmed us. We knew immediately we had to get him out and find him a home where someone would love him as much as he loves others. Memphis is a young Rottie and likes to play. While he can be active, he also enjoys hanging out with anyone who will love on him. He's good with other dogs on a case by case basis. He doesn't seem to care for other dominant males. Please give Memphis a chance and let him steal your heart away. This teddybear needs a foster home while he waits for his forever home. Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you can help!

More About Rottweiler Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Look at these gorgeous girls!!!! Margo and Mallory are amazing dogs looking for a very special home TOGETHER!!!! Margo is the Black and Tan, and Mallory is the blonde. We originally thought the girls were sisters but after their spays our vet said that Margo was most likely the very young mother of Mallory. Margo is just about two and a half years old, and Mallory is about a year and a half. They are clearly a type of hound mix, just not sure which. These beautiful girls were at Harris County set to be euthanized. But we just could not let them go. We were hoping they would be able to move on to homes of their own, however, separating them has not gone well. Mallory curls up in to a ball and refuses to eat or play. And both girls cry, howl and bay trying to find the other. What is the point in saving them, if not to let them have the lives they clearly want...TOGETHER!!! They are incredibly loving. They are quite strong so tend to be a little much for super young kids. They love to run and play, but also like to cuddle up next to each other. Click HERE to see them playing at Daycare! And they love hugs!!!! Both girls are up to date on vaccines, spayed and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting /fostering these girls TOGETHER, please fill out the appropriate application at www.scoutshonor.org The only good thing these girls have had is each other! Please help us find the home that shows them together, how much more is out there.

Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Our little Ava is just the sweetest baby girl. Pulled out of Harris County Animal Control this baby girl had never known anything good. Her entire first 9-11 months must have just been horrible. Just reaching for this baby was enough to cause her to scream in pain. Thank goodness for Washington Heights Vet Clinic. In just 24 hours this baby was starting to trust, even wag her tail! And now, over a year later she loves humans, other dogs and is even friends with the clinic cats. Sweet Ava is probably a lab mix, who healed beautifully. She currently weighs around 45-50 pounds. If you are interested in adopting this sweetie and have tons of love to give and can promise to truly love her forever and never let her down, fill out our application right away.

Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Australian Kelpie / Mixed (short coat). Meet Chevy! Chevy is a sweet little guy who had been living on the street all alone until a Scout's Honor volunteer was able to help him. Chevy had been living under a truck for a while (it was a Chevy) while a Scout's Honor volunteer was working to gain his trust. He kept going every day to feed him and give him some attention. The business near where he was let him come onto their property and provided him some shelter. Unfortunately, because there was a busy street nearby, sweet little Chevy got bumped by a few cars when he was out and about and lost a few teeth as a result. Luckily, he did not sustain any significant injuries, and just needed to eat and get a bath. Chevy is an awesome dog , loves other dogs and loves to play ! Chevy is a high energy dog, but is also very smart and alert. He needs A LOT of exercise and positive reinforcement, but will pick up very quickly on what you are teaching him. He would be a great dog for agility or flyball!! As long as you keep him busy and challenged he will impress you with how well he can learn things. He just wants someone who will give him the direction, attention and structure he wants/needs. He would make a great dog for an active home with NO kiddos. Kiddos are just too unpredictable for this guy. He also needs a home that understands how to properly introduce him to new people and watch his cues. Chevy can be very protective of his people and area, so proper intros are a must. True to his Kelpie breed, Chevy likes to herd and run and play . Check out this VIDEO of him just having a grand time running - look at those turns! Kelpie's are unique problem solvers and will find a way to do whatever he deems necessary. Chevy fits these traits to a T, and anyone who knows and loves the herding breeds would just adore little Chevy!! He's a real catch!! Chevy is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped. Please contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting this precious guy! You can read all about our foster and adoption process, as well as make a donation for his care, on our website at www.scoutshonor.org.

      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet King, a 15-year-old lab that was dumped at the pound by his "owner". He had a massive basketball sized tumor between his front two legs that impeded his ability to walk. His owner claimed she had no money or transportation to do anything about this basketball-sized tumor impeding her dog’s walking. Amazingly she was able to dump him at the pound so he could die alone. This didn’t happen overnight!! King is as sweet and goofy as they come. It's sickening that he was been forced to carry a horrendous appendage around like a ball and chain. King is 15, but he sure doesn’t act it. This boy has plenty of pep to this step. He such a sweetheart! He's doing great and is in a foster home. His surgery went very well and we received all of the biopsy results. Pretty good news overall, but we are definitely thankful that we had the large mass on his chest and the tumor that was found when he was neutered removed. Turns out the large mass on his chest was a mast cell tumor but our vets got clean margins, so we are optimistic that we got everything and it had not spread. The tumor on one of his testicles was a Sertoli tumor – biggest concern for spreading elsewhere – to prostate and/or surrounding lymph nodes. 10-14% of these metastasize. Our vets got complete excision with clean margins. We know he feels a million times better now that he is able to walk without the obstruction of the large mass. Now, we need to find this great boy a forever home to live out his years. Please complete an adoption app at www.scoutshonor.org.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / American Staffordshire Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Clyde! You may remember Clyde’s sad story of cruelty and neglect. We were shocked when we saw his pictures and heard how he had literally been strangled with a belt by his so called owner. His strangulation caused a massive deep cut all around his neck and caused the blood not be able to circulate resulting in his face ballooning until he was unrecognizable. He was confiscated from his owner and charges are pending. In the meantime, we brought him into our rescue and have nursed him back to health. We could tell he didn’t know what it was like to be treated kindly, but after talking to him a bit and giving him love, he started wagging his tail. He is BEYOND sweet!! Check him out HERE playing with his friends at daycare! He had a long road to recovery and to put on weight, but he’s doing great now, thanks to the help of the great team at Vergi 24/7! With the help of the vets, we are providing pictures and info on the extent of his injuries to the Harris County DA's office. Hopefully, we will see justice done for this sweet boy! Our vets guess that Clyde is a youngster, maybe 2 years old and a Cattle Dog mix of sorts. He’s super friendly and fun-loving now. He does great with most other dogs that are medium to large in size. He is high-energy, so he would do best in an active home and with another active dog that can play, and play, and play with him! He’s not especially fond of cats, so a home without cats is a must. Clyde is just the sweetest, although he does get his feelings hurts easily when corrected, so he is a quick learner and pleaser. Makes training a piece of cake! Clyde is doing fabulous in his foster home with his 2 canine siblings, but he would really love to find a forever home where he never has to worry again! Contact us at info@scoutshonor.org if you can help! Check out Clyde playing with his friends at daycare HERE SHR covers all expenses associated with fostering!

Posted Breed: Bull Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed. Meet our sweet Leia (f/k/a Clementine)!! Leia is a 2-3 year old girl that was picked up by BARC (Houston Animal Control) with one of the worst cases of demodectic mange and skin sores we have ever seen. Poor Leia had virtually no hair on her body and almost every square inch of skin was covered with scabs and open sores that were oozing blood. For her to be in the condition she was in and being so young, she had to have suffered terrible neglect. Leia is doing remarkable and happy and totally healthy! Her skin has totally healed, her hair growing back, and she is full of love and life! Leia is a very lovable young girl, but like many Bull Terriers, she is selective on which canine friends she keeps. Really who can blame her - a girl has to be selective! Leia would do best in a home where she is provided exercise, love, cuddles, rules, and a nice big comfy bed!! Leia is up to date on vaccine, micro-chipped and spayed. If you are interested in fostering or adopting this gorgeous gal, please complete our online application found at www.scoutshonor.org right away so we can get her out of boarding and into a home!

All she asks is for someone to take her on nice walks and be there to provide the human company she so desperately wants. New owners will need to be understanding and allow Bonita to settle in and come out of her shell in her own time. Posted Breed: Basset Hound / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Ellie is the sweetest little girl who with less than 12 hours of care decided she was going to LIVE!!!!! When we first met this baby, it truly knocked the wind out of us. We had seen pictures but thought it was a thin coat of grey and white fur. We were wrong!!! See her playing HERE This little baby, at just about a year old, did not have a piece of fur but did instead have horrible blood stains all over her. The grey and white was her skin, thick like an elephant's. She would not left her head or even walk and you could see nothing of her eyes. Straight to the vet where she was given a bath, some pain meds and started on iv fluids. By the next morning this little girl was sitting up, yawning, and leaning her head into hands willing to scratch away some of the nastiness that had tried to take over her little body. Ellie needs some continued vet care but the most important change has already occurred -she has the will to get through this. Please help us continue to care for this baby girl and teach her about all the great things life has to offer a young, sweet pup.
