Posted Breed: Bearded Collie / Terrier (long coat). We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated. If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application. As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants. Agnes, nicknamed Aggie by her foster mom, is a fantastic dog, no thanks to the environment she came from. When she came to ARF, what hair she had was thin, sparse and in poor condition. Her exposed skin (from the middle of her back all the way to the tip of her tail, all the way down her legs, her ears, above her eyes) was thickened, scabbed, dried and was unrecognizable as skin due to prolonged, untreated, and ongoing contact flea dermatitis. The pain she was in was constant, she would scratch at her ears, back, and eyes all the time. When she wasn’t doing that, she was chewing on her legs trying to get rid of the pain, and the itch, of the fleas so much that she has some arthritis in her rear legs from the damage she caused to herself. Because of that and being under fed, she chewed on rocks which have made it difficult for vets to estimate her age by destroying normal dentition markers that vets typically use. Vets estimate age to be no younger than 4 and to be no older than 8 so with age range of 4-8, we are calling her 6 years young. After several months of treating her skin infection, skin allergies, etc. the vet has said her skin is normal and healthy and hair is growing back everywhere. What has been so much fun to see has been to see her demeanor change from painfully, gingerly, plodding to spunkily jogging along with definite pep to her step. Initially, she was hesitant to have you pet her because it was so often uncomfortable. Now, she demands full body rubs, massages, and never hesitates to ask (ok demands) for love. She wants to lay next to you, at least touching your feet. She absolutely loves people. Unbelievable that she has lived through what she has and she has the best personality you could ever ask for, people just gravitate to her. Because she can play a bit rough, we recommend older children above 10—otherwise she is good with everyone. She will share her humans with other dogs as well as with cats. Agnes is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken and spayed. Her new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Agnes's adoption fee is $250. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Agnes fill out an online application today! http://arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early, as we cannot hold animals. All household members must be present at time of adoption, including dogs. We appreciate your cooperation. Upcoming Adoption Events
