Posted Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed. Carly is a senior with a sparkling personality! She is a lover of people, belly rubs, special treats, sunbaths, and just a little bit of rabble-rousing. Someone needs to keep the young 'uns on their toes! We can scratch our heads and throw out ideas, but we will never really know why Carly has spent her entire 10 years of life at the shelter. With her gorgeous Catahoula coat, her youthful sense of fun, her welcoming wag...she is easy for us to love. But she'd really appreciate having the love of her very own family for once in her life. You may think Carly will have a hard time adjusting, but she's been a visitor at Encore Enrichment Center and she did just great adjusting to new places and people, while also learning basic manners. Patient with kids and fine with cats, Carly is however a fickle girlie when it comes to dog friends. She would rather not have another female dog around; what would be the point? You've got all the glam you need in Carly. And it seems the older she gets, the younger she likes her men (under 2 yrs old!). Yup, she's a cougar. If you wanna adopt a cougar, come meet Carly! Read a wonderful story about Carly paying it forward to a scared shelter puppy: encoreenrichmentcenter/carly-and-lucky/ DOB: Feb 2008 Weight: 60# and in dire need of a diet(!!) TWO FREE TRAINING SESSIONS: As a former guest at Encore, Carly comes with 2 free sessions at Encore within 90 days of her adoption to help her adjust to home life. calhouncountyhs.blogspot "Senior" is at least 7 years old. "Large" is at least 20 inches at the shoulder. Fenced yard usually required and approved application always required. Email, go to the website, or visit the shelter for more information. The shelter phone often does not work.

    Chandler *FINAL UPDATE* ...

    rescue
    Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
    Dallas, TX, USA
Posted Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie. 8-2-18 We were called back to the vet clinic this afternoon and told Chandler had suffered a stroke. While visiting with him to determine our next steps, Chandler had a fatal heart attack. Our only solace is knowing we were holding him until the end. We have fought this cancer battle all too often with Scotties. There doesn't seem to be a good answer as to why this breed suffers so much with this dreaded disease. No matter the number of specialists involved or the amount of money spent, our dogs are losing their lives. Chandler will be privately cremated and his ashes returned to us, so he can again be among his four footed & two footed friends. Rest in Peace Chandler. Travel well. 8-2-18 Chandler was not feeling well this morning and was immediately taken to our vet. It has been determined that the Vincristine (chemotherapy drug) has not helped him. We are going to try an emergency based chemo drug to see if that will give him some relief. At this point, his condition is guarded. 7-26-18 Chandler has responded well to the treatment he has been on for the past 3 weeks. His numerous tumors have shrunk by 1/3, making him more comfortable. Today, we have decided to try giving him some IV Chemotherapy, to see if we can have further positive results. He is receiving this treatment today and will return to his foster home late today. As always, we appreciate any donations to help us continue Chandler's care. 7-5-18 Chandler has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. His time with us is limited, yet with your help, his final days will be filled with comfort, care and love. As is the case many times, with no warning, we were surprised when Chandler woke up not feeling well. He was immediately taken to our vet, where an ultrasound revealed an enlarged spleen and multiple tumors in his abdomen. He is now receiving palliative care, making his last days more comfortable. Please consider making a small donation to help us continue to care for Chandler. Donations may be made via PayPal to email address: Donate@scottiekingdom.com or via USPS, to PO Box 551265 ~ Dallas, TX 75355 www.scottiekingdom.com Thank you for your help. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - *Chandler will do best in a home as the only pet. Chandler is a victim of the bad economy. His home was lost to foreclosure, his family forced to move, and instead of taking him with them, they left him locked inside, with a small amount of food and water. After several days of hearing his cries for help, neighbors broke in to the house, to save Chandler, and give him food and water. Afterwards, they continued to feed him, however, his life was delegated to a yard that he continuously got out of; probably looking for his family that abandoned him. After several days of research, his previous family was located, and gave us permission to place Chandler in our rescue program. As you can see from the photos, Chandler didn't have a great life, even when his family was with him. He was constantly tied up outside, left for days at a time, and his coat and skin suffered for it. The tether he was attached to, tightened around his neck, wearing down the hair and causing a rash and skin burns. These photos were taken after his matted, filthy coat was shaved off. There was no other way to properly groom him. Interestingly, after we rescued this wonderful Scottie, all of his fears went away, and he has become a true Scot! No more worries about where his next meal will come from and no concerns for fresh water. His medical needs have now been met, and he is ready to find his new home. Feeding Chandler a high quality food helped his coat immensely, however, it may never completely return. Nevertheless, Chandler adores attention and being held and petted. So much so, he has some jealousy issues with other dogs. Come visit this wonderful Scottie boy, and consider giving him a life-long home that he can call his own! Chandler is approximately 10yo. All dogs adopted by Scottie Kingdom Rescue, Inc. have had a full medical exam by one of our licensed Veterinarians, which includes testing (and treatment, if necessary) for Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, all necessary vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, dental cleaning as necessary, microchipping, registration of the microchip, and any other medical needs each particular dog may need. Copies of all available medical records are transferred to you when the adoption is finalized. We prefer to adopt to families with past Scottie, Westie, Terrier (or similar) experience, but realize this isn’t always possible. We do not ship our pets. If you have that special place in your heart, and in your home, for a Scottie (or any of our other available rescue dogs), please visit us in Dallas for an in person meet & greet session with our available dogs. If you have existing dogs, they must travel to Dallas with you, so we can be assured that they will be compatible with the new addition to your family. Please contact us at Rescue@scottiekingdom.com to receive an Adoption Application or for more information on our Adoption process. Also, please take the time to visit our website www.scottiekingdom.com for additional information. We sometimes receive several applications on the same dog. Our goal is to place the dog in the best home possible, based on his/her needs, personality and past history. Please note: Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee the adoption of any dog. We are looking for the best available home for each of our rescue dogs. Thank you for your understanding, and for considering adoption! Donations may be made via PayPal to email address: Donate@scottiekingdom.com or via USPS, to PO Box 551265 ~ Dallas, TX 75355

Posted Breed: Greyhound. Bree whose racing name was Joann's Fantasy was recently relinquished due to family issues and through no fault of hers. The former adopter loved but had no time or space for her at the present time. She was described as "a dream to have". Good with small children, cats and other dogs. Bree is in a foster home with another greyhound and a small dog. She is adjusting well. Bree was 10 years old in June and she is in good health. ________________________________________________________________ Original Posting from 2010 Joann's Fantasy is one gorgeous girl. She is not only pretty but she is sweet, friendly, calm and walks nicely on leash--can you ask for much more. One of the volunteers said that she reminded them of marble cake--how cute. Fantasy is a really nice, nice girl She is 2 years old. She is cat workable in that she could be directed away from the cat and distracted.

Posted Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Approx DOB: 7/2008 Approx Weight: 66 lbs. Adoption Fee: $100 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. Kip is male Lab/Terrier mix who came to Furry Kids' Refuge when his time had run out at a local kill shelter. Normally he has a wonderful temperament with other dogs but can be dominant over his food bowl (not towards people, just other dogs who might want his food.) Kip loves most people and just wants to play and have fun! Kip does have a bite incident that was reported, it was not his fault but sadly it will haunt him the remainder of his days. Notes from Kip's caretaker: "Kip or as we call him Kipper is the sweetest lab you’ll ever meet. He’s truly a big baby. He loves water and to chase butterflies; it’s pretty adorable! Kip weighs 65 pounds and he is a solid pooch. If you love big dogs you’ll love this big baby. As he has aged Kip has become much more laid back. I can put most any big dogs with him and he will play for days. Kips past homes have caused him to be more weary of men. It’s unfortunate but many dogs struggle with bad past experiences. It can take Kip a few moments to warm up to men but he does:) With women Kip is totally at home. He will open up right away. Since he is such a big dog children 13 and up would be ideal. Kip is house trained and can show you his tricks. He’s super goofy and is happy-go-lucky no matter what. He loves bones and toys but will play in the pool as long as you’ll let him. Please give this beautiful boy a chance. He’s totally your dogs next playmate:) Kipper can be food aggressive with other dogs so until you get time to trust his ways feeding dogs separate is advised. He is not a fan of cats...definitely thinks those are toys." Even if you aren’t sure about adopting a dog today talk to us about being a foster. We need our pups to be socialized and loved. You could be that person. Kip has been neutered, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped. Please fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on 'Adopt A Dog' and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient. You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from Noon to 4:00 p.m. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!! Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/ for more information. Thanks for your support!

Posted Breed: Boxer / Pointer / Mixed (short coat). I"m Princes Piper, and a princess I am for sure! I love to be comfy, loved and pampered. I am great with big people, but I'm a little too hyper for kids. I'm really not fond of cats. I don't understand them at all, and want to chase them, so a home without them would be great! I also do not like to share with other dogs. I like to have my people and toys all to myself. I have a lot of energy and am very active. I would love a family who can help me keep my energy and enthusiasm under control. I love taking long walks and jogging as well. I enjoy the beach and public outings. I have great manners at home, and am overall a whole lot of fun. Give me a chance to show you all the fun and love I have to offer! I'm up to date on shots, crate trained, heartworm negative, spayed and on heartworm preventative. I'm ready for my permanent family and I hope they are out there somewhere and ready for me too! Requirements for Piper's adption: Must have a pet free home, must own your own home, & must have a fully fenced in yard.

Name: Lacey Breed: Lab/Border Collie Mix Approximate Age: 5 years Approximate Weight: 44 lbs. Currently Living at: Local Foster. Lacey needs a forever home! My name is Lacey, and I am a VERY active girl! They think I am a lab/collie mix. My ideal family would be one that includes at least one human who will take me on long walks daily so I can work off my energy! I think I am best suited for an active owner/family. I loves to run, swim, hike, camp; with all the puppy energy despite her age. The humans say I am also very smart and is easy to train (tricks, agility, jumping skills). Like all dogs, I loves attention and can't ever get enough of it. Like most shelter dogs, Lacey may need a refresher on housetraining. She is likely crate trained.
