    Dexter Holla...

    Breed: Bo-Dach
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: Maryville, TN
Posted Breed: Boston Terrier / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Only a year and a half old, Dexter has endured quite the rough ride for one dude. His first owners were in a bad situation and were forced to give him up for his safety. We knew the home was abusive, and though Dexter has a big puppy smile, he also cowers at times and intimidates easily. Dexter is extra long because he’s not just a boston terrier, he’s got some dachshund sprinkled in there too! His handsome brindle stripes really add to his fun loving character. And his longer nose eliminates the usual boston snoring. When Dexter joined us, he was super skinny, but with treats and attention, he grew to a healthy weight of 22 pounds. Dexter had a very unfortunate event occur his first day in his foster parents’ home. You’d think after all the stress this little guy had experienced, he’d be allotted time for happiness and learning. Instead, the first evening Dexter spent in his safe puppy cage, he nearly hung himself with his collar on the door. Dexter freed himself from suffocation but his right eye wasn’t so lucky. He suffered proptosis from the pressure around his neck. That evening, his foster parents had the help of an ophthalmology-emergency-veterinarian to make a decision about keeping Dexter’s eye. He had a big surgery to reduce his eye back into his head with retention sutures to allow scar tissue to form around the globe. Dexter became a cone-dog for over a month but didn’t let it get him down. He suffered a melting corneal ulcer to that same eye; a negative outcome from swelling against the sutured eyelid. He had many vet appointments and a variety of eye drops that his foster parents had to apply every two hours. Even his own plasma was used in the preservation of this eye! You can imagine why the guy got so many treats. And through all of that, he learned to trust humans even more. He developed a very fun personality as he started feeling well. Dexter will likely need drops in that eye to help with moisture moving forward in life. Other than that, he’s a perfect 1.5year old with good vision in both eyes! Dexter is fun-loving and energetic. He loves to cuddle in the evenings or especially early in the morning. He likes to play with toys and run around with his foster siblings. He’s never met a dog he didn’t like. Now that the cone is gone, other dogs are no longer intimidated by Dexter. Dexter can be a shadow to his foster mom but also doesn’t mind to pull up a good antler and gnaw away when she’s busy. His timid ways are practically gone and its clear he seeks to please his foster parents. With all the health problems, Dexter’s still working on obedience commands. He knows his name well and perks up when he hears you talk about him. He loves to come when he’s called, or if he hears the word “treat”. Dexter is a total blast and would make a great companion to another fur sibling but also could be an only dog. He’d want to go for a lot of walks and would love a yard of his own. Dexter loves to fetch and be chased. He doesn’t always give the ball back though! He loves the destruction process of plush toys and carrying around different femur bones. Sometimes he empties the toy bin of his favorite bones and stacks them neatly on the couch; who wouldn’t love a neat guy? Dexter was the sweetest most pitiful boy we could imagine when he didn’t feel good. Seeing him play and enjoy everything has been such a pleasure. He’s more entertaining than television. Maybe he’ll be the perfect-two-eyed-miracle-story for your life! Dexter would do well in a home with or without another fur friend. He’s been exposed to several toddlers but given his history, may be unpredictable with a child who’s not dog savvy. Dexter Holland is UTD, heart worm negative, neutered, & micro-chipped. Crate Trained: yes Potty Trained: yes Dog Friendly: yes Cat friendly: not sure Kid Friendly: yes, but caution advised related to abused past. The adoption fee is $200.00. If you want to talk about me, please contact my foster family at the Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee, Kentucky Region Email me at: BTRETky@gmail.com and a foster momma or daddy will get back with you as soon as possible. Keep in mind this is the general mailbox for the entire KY Region. Please use the foster momma or dad's contact information above for questions. The process always begins with an application which can be found at The Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee website Note that in most cases, we do not adopt to families with small children, e.g., "under 6," as a precaution to the child's safety and the dog's safety. In some cases with larger Boston mixes or other dogs, we do make exceptions. Please ask the foster momma. We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog. The East Coast division (NC/SC/VA/MD/DC) does have special transport capabilties for their kids. Ask them. Also, submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you.

Applications submitted within 24 hours of the event may not necessarily be reviewed. Smurfette is a 3 year old Boston-Dachshund all kinds of mixes in there. This girl is a gem. She's friendly and outgoing. She's a lover girl. She's a total snuggler and cuddler. She wants to be on your lap or sitting next to you or hanging out in your office. She's totally happy to be with her people. Now she's not anxious but she loves her people. If you're looking for a velcro type of dog then she's the one for you. She is going to make an awesome office dog or a dog who can run errands with her person. Smurfette is a small little compact girl. She looks like a little tank. She's so cute. She has a wonderfully easy coat to maintain. She is crate trained. She would prefer to sleep with her people but she can and does sleep in her crate at her foster home. Smurfette lives with other dogs. She is an option to go to the dog park or doggy day camp or even to join another dog in her home. Smurfette lives with cats. She is an option to go to a home with cats. Smurfette is an option to live in a home with kids who are over the age of 6. **Not all of our dogs go to each adoption event. We want to make sure if you are interested in a dog that we have the dog at adoptions but that can only happen if you fill out an application ahead of time and are pre-approved. (Generally this must happen prior to the weekend) **If you are wanting to submit an application within 24 hours of an event, please print off the application and bring with you as well as submitting it. You may still submit it and if time and volunteers permit, we will contact you. Most applications submitted the weekend of adoptions are not responded to until after the adoption weekend.

Posted Breed: Boston Terrier / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). This girl is pretty Pixie, she is a 3 month old red Boston/Dachshund mix with green eyes, spayed, UTD on shots, and microchipped. We found Pixie and her brother Black Bean Gene when they were being sold on the side of the road. We were able to get both pups and place them in a foster home. Pixie is very energetic, loves people and other dogs. She enjoys spending time outside playing, exploring or just hanging out. She is a very sweet girl but would rather be in a home with older kids, 10 years plus. She will tolerate smaller kids but doesn't love them. She is a cuddle bug and likes to be held like a baby on your shoulder. Pixie is working on her potty manners and loves to be in her crate.
