Posted Breed: Husky / Border Collie / Mixed (medium coat). See Deuce's HomepageGo to our official websiteThis stunning boy is Deuce. We saved him from a local shelter after his family moved and decided Deuce wasn't important enough to take along. We were told he had always been an outside dog but he adapted beautifully to living inside, which says a lot about his personality! Deuce is a fun loving guy who is friendly and outgoing. He simply LOVES car rides and to go on them often. LOL! He also enjoys walks, outings to fun places, and romping in the yard with his canine pals! While Deuce isn't an energetic guy per se he does like a lot of stimulation so he will do best in a home with another dog OR with a family who likes to spend time with their only dog (playing, walking, training or of course, taking those fantastic car rides!). Deuce is crate-trained, house-trained and has some basic training. If it's a handsome, friendly, and fun-loving dog you seek, then Deuce may be just the guy for you! Placement Needs: An active family who will provide stimulation or another dog as a companion How To Adopt Me: Step 1: First, p lease be sure you have read this pet's entire description in order to decide whether this particular pet is a good candidate for your family. We try to include as many details as possible about each pet, including the type of placement needs and requirements they have for adoption. Step 2: Be sure to read our adoption policies and procedures before contacting us. Step 3: E-mail us to request an adoption application and/or inquire about this pet.

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Dottie

      Breed: Dalmatian-Unknown Mix
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: Raleigh, NC
Posted Breed: Dalmatian / Mixed (short coat). Sweet, well-mannered gal looking for loving family, loads of attention and permanent home! Our Dottie girl was rescued from a shelter after her family surrendered her there. It was clear from the start that Dottie had lived inside a home and was used to a crate. This girl is very well mannered, walks wonderfully on a leash, and has a very mild temperament about her. She is currently going through a basic dog training class and is learning fast! Dottie does get a little nervous in new environments and situations so she needs encouragement and patience to help boost her confidence. We would provide her new family with information and support for this. Dottie was very uncomfortable with other dogs when she first came to us. It is likely that she did not have a lot of experience with them. She has made a few doggie friends since being with us and enjoys romping and playing with them. She would make a good companion for a younger, playful male dog, OR we also think she might enjoy being an only dog Dottie has been introduced to several children at adoption events and did well with them. We will not place her in a home with young children, however, because she is a little nervous and we don't have enough information about her behavior with them in a living situation. Dottie also needs to go to a cat-free home. This girl is truly an amazing dog and a favorite by our volunteers. If you're looking for a calm, well mannered, super sweet girl then you'd better snatch Dottie up before her foster mom decides to keep her. (Check out the photo of them on the sofa!) Placement Needs: Should be an only dog or perhaps placed with a younger, sociable male dog. Needs home without children under the age of 6 How To Adopt Me: Step 1: First, p lease be sure you have read this pet's entire description in order to decide whether this particular pet is a good candidate for your family. We try to include as many details as possible about each pet, including the type of placement needs and requirements they have for adoption. Step 2: Be sure to read our adoption policies and procedures before contacting us. Step 3: E-mail us to request an adoption application and/or inquire about this pet.

      Age: Adult
      Location: Raleigh, NC
Posted Breed: Siberian Husky / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Bright-eyed and bushy tailed! That's a fitting description of our boy Solo! Solo is a truly STUNNING boy, with one blue eye and one brown eye! But his looks are just a PLUS on top of all his other great qualities! Solo has TONS of personality and is very outgoing with people. He'd love to be someone's constant companion... on car rides and outings, hikes, dates - you name it! He's always "up" for anything! In his foster home, he enjoys playing fetch, playing with toys, SNUGGLING, or just laying quietly by his foster mom's feet. (ok, maybe that last part is after a busy day!) This boy is highly intelligent, and very eager to learn. He is very food motivated, which makes training a fun and easy task with him! And he always wants SOooooo much to please! Solo is quite an active boy and needs a family who is active, wants to spend a lot of time with their dog, and will provide him with regular stimulation and exercise. In his foster home, he enjoys spending lots of time romping, wrestling, and playing with the other dogs, so we believe he would do best in a home with another dog for companionship and a fenced yard for off-leash play is a must. (Solo does not always get along with male dogs, so ladies only please!) He does not have a lot of cat experience or experience with children. For this reason, he should not be placed with cats or children under the age of 10. All Solo needs is a great family to share all of his cool characteristics with! So if Solo strikes you as the fun-loving, wonderful companion that we know him to be, please inquire! Placement Requirements: fenced yard female canine companion active family who spends a lot of time with their dog no children under the age of 10 years How To Adopt Me: Step 1: First, p lease be sure you have read this pet's entire description in order to decide whether this particular pet is a good candidate for your family. We try to include as many details as possible about each pet, including the type of placement needs and requirements they have for adoption. Location: Raleigh, NC
Posted Breed: Beagle (short coat). Wake up and smell the Daisy... er, um, maybe wake up and NOTICE Daisy? (How could you not???) This girl is just a DOLL. She has personality PLUS. She is feisty. She is fun. She is lovable, and oh, SO snuggable. Daisy wasn't always such a happy girl though. In fact, her early life included MUCH neglect. She has never looked back since rescue and is now a happy, healthy girl with a little heart of gold! Daisy loves to play with toys, romp with her canine foster siblings, and spend time "exploring" her yard. Yes, true to "beagle form", that nose is always to the ground. Daisy would LOVE to have a fenced yard in her new home where she could continue to be on "beagle patrol". :-) Of course, Daisy isn't all about the great outdoors. She loves to snuggle... with her humans and her canine "siblings". And she is OH, SO SNUGGABLE! Daisy LOVES other dogs and we think she would do best in a home with an outgoing dog for a buddy. We have not tested Daisy with cats but can do so if requested. Daisy has developed some shyness as a result of her early neglect. She is very nervous in public settings/situations but warms up quickly in private household situations. (She has gotten to visit some of our volunteers!!) She will need a family who is understanding of her nervousness and won't force her into these situations that frighten her. We will also provide information and resources on how to help Daisy learn to be more confident. Because of Daisy's shyness, we will not place her in a home with young children. Ultimately, Daisy just wants a home where she will get tons of attention and TLC. (Admittedly, she has been a 'bit' spoiled with us because she is just so cute!.) So, if Daisy touches your heart the way she does ours, please consider this girl for your family. Placement needs: * Needs a socially outgoing canine companion * Preference for a fenced yard * No young children How To Adopt Me: Step 1: First, p lease be sure you have read this pet's entire description in order to decide whether this particular pet is a good candidate for your family. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). "Fun-loving, active, and outgoing female, seeks adventurous and on the go family for good times, good fun, lots of affection, and long-term relationship!” Gypsy is an outgoing and friendly girl who LOVES people. She has, as they say, "never met a stranger". In fact, that actually saved her from a life in the woods... a good Samaritan came across a hungry Gypsy, who wanted to jump right in the woman's car with her! You can't get much friendlier than that! Gypsy would be a great dog for an individual or family who wants a hiking or jogging companion. She loves car rides and she's always ready to go places with her humans. She may be "middle aged", but shhhhhhh...... don't tell Gypsy. She doesn't know! She is still plenty playful and active... but she also settles down nicely on her bed to chew on her deer antler or hollow out her stuffed Kong! Oh, and did I mentioned..... she LOVES belly rubs? Gypsy enjoys playing with the other dogs in her foster home. She is a boisterous player though, and not for the timid-type dog. We think she would also be fine as an only dog as well. After all, she LOVES her humans! Also, Gypsy is a fence climber and either needs a 6 ft privacy fence OR to be kept on leash. Gypsy is NOT good with cats and because she is still pretty active, we think she would be "too much" for young children.. So, if you're looking for a happy-go-lucky, active dog to be a full-fledge member of the family, then this former "Gypsy in the woods" is the gal for you! Placement Requirements: No cats No young children Either to be kept ON leash or yard must have a 6 ft. fence How To Adopt Me: Step 1: First, p lease be sure you have read this pet's entire description in order to decide whether this particular pet is a good candidate for your family. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Small but mighty! :-) Petey may be small but he is "mighty" and has a BIG personality. He is very playful, loving, and FAST! He loves to snuggle and give kisses.... he's a real lap dog...but he also loves to race around and have tons of fun! Put all those characteristics together and you've got a REAL CUTIE-PIE! Petey gets along well and enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home. He is not very tolerant of "pushy" behavior from other dogs though so if placed in a home with another dog, it should be a calmer more laid back dog but who is very friendly and flexible with other dogs. Petey has never been separated from his sister, Annie Oakley, and we'd LOVE to find a home for them together (though we realize that may not be possible). They are SOoooo cute together!! We would offer a special adoption fee for someone to adopt them together. :-) Like many dogs Petey is a bit "yappy" so that should be a consideration for families living in apartments. Because of Petey's tiny stature, we will not place him in a home with children under the age of 10. Similarly, because of his size we will not place him in a home with a large breed dog unless the dog specifically has prior experience with tiny dogs. Petey is crate-trained. He is not yet fully house-trained. Placement Requirements: No children under the age of 10 years No large breed dogs (see exception above) How To Adopt Me: Step 1: First, p lease be sure you have read this pet's entire description in order to decide whether this particular pet is a good candidate for your family. While she's a bundle of fun & activity, she also enjoys sitting on your lap, or relaxing and napping under your chair. Annie gets along well with other dogs in her foster home but is a little unsure about unfamiliar dogs so needs to be introduced to them slowly. She does not care for dogs who are pushy with her, so if placed with another dog it should be a calmer, more mellow sort of dog but who is friendly and flexible. Annie has a brother named Petey who she has never been separated from. While we know it is a tall order, we'd LOVE to see them placed together. They are SOoooooo cute together. Location: Raleigh, NC
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). America's Little Sweetheart! Fionna is a Shepherd mix girl with LOADS of personality. She is outgoing, enjoys people, and really wants to spend a lot of time with her humans -- be it playing, going for car rides, or just kickin' back and relaxin'. She really enjoys the great outdoors so a family who enjoys having their dog accompany them on walks, hikes, car rides and community outings would be a great fit for Fionna. Fionna is great with other dogs and enjoys spending time romping, wrestling, and playing a speedy game of chase around the yard with her foster siblings. Fionna would make a great companion for another playful dog and in fact, she loves other dogs so much that we are looking for a home for her with a canine buddy. A fenced yard is also preferred as Fionna loves to spend a lot of time outside playing with her canine companions but a family who does a lot with their dogs but does not have a fence will be considered as well. This little gal is a great size at only 40 lbs. and she is moderately active so doesn't have huge exercise needs. She is also house-trained and crate-trained and has some obedience training. She is also very intelligent and treat motivated so there is SO much more she can learn!. She does not have much experience with cats so we would need to assessfor that if a family has cats and because she has not had a lot of experience with young children, she is in need of a home either without them or with children at least 8 years of age. This is a very loving and loyal gal... Now all America's Little Sweetheart needs is a family to call her own! He is sweet, loving, and wow is this guy playful! Bandit loves to romp and play with other dogs, big or small. He adores toys and will readily amuse himself with them. The best way to describe Bandit is an exuberant little guy who just loves life and is happy to express that! Bandit is going to do best in a home with an active family and another dog for companionship. He would make a GREAT companion for another dog who loves to romp, wrestle, and play. A fenced yard would be ideal for this boy so he can spend lots of time outside with his canine buddy. If your dog is looking for a fun-loving canine sibling, Bandit may just be the one!! Bandit is a little reserved and wary of new people because he did not get the important early socialization. A hand full of treats and a patient introduction, however, and Bandit will quickly become your best friend. He enjoys calm, gentle children but would not be a good candidate for a home that has young children. We have not tested him with cats but believe because of his terrier nature that he would not be good with them. Bandit is house-trained and crate-trained.
