rescue Breed: English Boston Bulldog Sex: Male Male Age: Young Location: USAPosted Breed: English Bulldog / Boston Terrier / Mixed (short coat). The time is here! Hercules has reached the point where he is ready to have his front legs operated on to fuse his paws and straighten his leg bones. We are looking to find him a foster home with a family that will take care of him and help him heal and go through rehab following his surgeries and ultimately adopt him. While we were hoping to do both legs at the same time, the doctors are now thinking that doing one leg at a time will allow Hercules to move around a bit more if he has one front leg available while the other is immobilized. So the surgery/recovery/rehab time frame could last for 3-4 months. Thanks to all of Hercules’ Heroes, Boston Buddies will pay for all of his medical care – including any rehab work necessary. But Hercules will need to have close supervision while he heals so we are looking for a home with someone around all the time – either working from home, stay at home, retired, etc. Hercules’ surgeries will be done in Northern San Diego County so a home near there would be great but not necessary, but Hercules will need to stay in Southern California. We can enlist our fabulous group of volunteers if necessary to transport him to and from surgery and follow ups if his foster to adopt home is not able to do so. Hercules has been in several homes during his time in rescue and he is dog friendly. Hercules is an “in your face” kind of guy and he does best with well adjusted, confident dogs who like to play. He will take advantage of and try to bully nervous dogs. Hercules does listen and is quick to learn – but he is just a young pup and needs an owner who is a leader and will take time to teach him and rein him in when he tries to push the boundaries (like any teenager does!) If you would like to be considered please submit an Adoption Application. You can find it online here: http://www.bostonbuddies.org/adoption/applications-and-forms/adoption-application/ Please note: we anticipate receiving many applications for Hercules. We will go through each of the applications and find the one that best fits Hercules’ needs. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding that there is only one Hercules and many many people wanting to give him a home. Calling all human mortals looking to lend a helping hand and become immortalized in the eyes of a precious pup in need!! Give a huge and heavenly hello to our 1 year old boy, HERCULES!! Our very own zero from the Long Beach Shelter has quickly become a Boston Buddies hero indeed but is also one handsome humble little hero in serious need. A perfectly imperfect mess, Hercules came in to the shelter as a stray in bad shape at best; his ears have been painfully cropped by previous foolish mortals, he was completely blind in one eye due to an injury left untreated, and he also had an umbilical hernia (the eye was removed and hernia repaired when he was neutered). And the lightning bolt to top of this perfect storm, Hercules suffers from congenital deformities in both of his front legs. 3D images from a CT scan show that both of Hercules paws are disconnected from his leg bones and that both leg bones are curved in an “s” shape – first bending outward and then bending inward. The orthopedic surgeon plans to fuse Hercules’ paws to his legs and then cut the curved bones and put in place a plate to straighten them out. Sounds like a massive mess for us mortals, but bless our human souls because Herc is certainly on a roll!! The Muses, goddesses of the arts, put it perfectly in Disney’s Hercules: “Who put the glad in gladiator, HERCULES! Whose daring deeds are great theater? Hercules! Is he bold? No one braver! Is he sweet? Our fav'rite flavor! Hercules, Hercules …" No physical disability can diminish Hercules deep determination and no foolish mortal of the past can strip him of his superhuman sweet soul! Hercules is doing great in his foster home, learning the ways of the pack, how to respect his elders, and even use the doggy door. He gets around the house with the help of PawFriction, a product that helps him gain/maintain traction on surfaces, and we’ll tell ya he is one fast fellow! Once he undergoes surgery he should be soaring around town just as swift as Pegasus!! Super playful, insanely snuggly, and endlessly sweet—Hercules is certainly a heavenly treat!! Between visits to the general vet, the ophthalmologist, and the orthopedic surgeon, medical expenses to help Hercules go the distance have already reached $3,100 and will steadily rise to the highest peak of Mt. Olympus by the time our hero is fully healed. This is why we come to you merciful mortals, heroes happy and hoping to help, and ask for your support in donating to the HERCULES HERO FUND!! We are so humbly seeking donations to reach our goal of $15,000 to help Hercules find where he belongs for furever, happy, and HEALTHY! BUT WAIT! Hercules has worked his charms on a special admirer who has agreed to match all donations raised dollar for dollar up to $15,000! That means your $1 donation is equal to $2! To donate to the Hercules Hero Fund go to this page of our website and use the special PayPal button there to let us know the donations is for the Hercules Hero Fund. http://www.bostonbuddies.org/events/hercules-hero-fund/ Check back to that website page often as we will be posting the names of Hercules Heroes! Any funds raised in excess of those needed to support Hercules will be used to support the rescue efforts of Boston Buddies, which provides veterinary care, fostering and placement of abandoned and owner surrendered Boston Terriers.
