None noted - he is on a joint supplement for hip health because he's so big Weight: 35" at the shoulder (yes he's a big boy) Height: About 110 lbs Adoption Fee: $200 Fence needed? Absolutely no exception, he must have a fence. What kind of home would be best for me? Henry needs a strong, competent single woman as his leader. He prefers larger women - 5'9" or more, although he has mellowed a bit in this and likes a few shorter women now too. He does not have a lot of men around here but he has shown a definite preference for powerful, confident women all his life. For the right owner - Henry is the perfect dog. He loves to travel, he bonds closely to his person and is physically affectionate. He's beautiful and his coat needs a lot of care so plan to spend a lot of time with a brush in your hand. He likes long walks and lots of snuggle time. He loves to play tug of war with his toys, play ball and in generally being goofy, running and romping in the fields. What is my personality like? Henry is on his 3rd trip here through no fault of his own. His first placement failed when the owner moved from a large property with a fenced in yard to living with parents in suburbia, parents who did not understand this great big dog. His second owner loved him dearly and took good care of Henry for several years but a massive stroke took her ability to function in this world and Henry needed to return to the people who know and love him to once again find a home. Henry is very unique. He's excellent with other dogs, even the smaller or weaker ones. He is currently co-existing with a quite diversified group that includes a grumpy senior husky mix, a one eyed senior miniature poodle, a blind collie mix, a senior standard poodle and two mini labradoodles that are young and full of life. Henry enjoys spending time with all of them. He loves to sit in the sun and he is very treat and food motivated. We have a couch in the middle of the big dog kennel and Henry loves to lounge on it and spread out. He takes up the whole thing. He loves praise and to feel your approval of him through your actions and voice. Other dogs - Henry would do well with a canine buddy but it's not required either. Big or small, he's fine. Henry wants to do be someone's best friend. He wants to be with you through the good and the bad. He never wants to let you down. He always wants you to know he's got your back. But he can't be a side thought . He needs someone into the whole dog/person relationship 100%. He does not want to be second fiddle. Now for the no's - Henry is big and when he takes a dislike to someone, he will use his size and power to dominate and rule. He has charged at several people especially behind a fence. He is intimidating when he barks and that will frighten a lot of people. He is not a dog for someone who has a lot of friends. He is going to be good with one, maybe two people. No more. No kids - he's far too big and they are short and move fast. No first time dog owners - we are seeking someone who has a lot of dog behavior experience. I'd prefer someone with herding dog/great pyr experience. Henry is great pyr in his guardian duties and he is poodle in his desire to be with people. No full time workers (unless you work from home). Henry can't tolerate someone gone more than a few hours a day. A quiet, low key home - Henry does not need people coming and going all the time. He needs stability and a low traffic home. How I act when I first meet new people: If you come to meet Henry, we'll be bringing him to you. If he walks in a room and people are already there, he'll do fine. He needs to enter the room after the people are established. He wags tail, greets, etc . if he's in the room when you come in, he'll go into guarding mode and you will get barked at. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. My age: Birthdate Sept 2009 Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. To apply, please visit our webpage at and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
