She's looking for a forever home that will give her lots of love! Our pets are spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations before they are adopted. Breed: Shih Apso
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Shih Tzu / Mixed. Name: Rico Suspected Breed: Lhasa Apso/Shih Tzu mix Approximate Age: 10 years old Approximate Weight: 13 lbs but extremely underweight Personality: calm Good with Dogs: he seems okay with calm dogs Good with Cats: not yet tested Good with Kids: not yet tested Currently Living at: DC area Foster home This adorable boy is an ~10 year old, 13 lbs Maltese mix who Is in need of some TLC. His human could no longer take care of him due to dementia, and he found himself in an over-crowded shelter and out of time. The shelter staff saw the potential in him and pleaded for rescue so he could have a second chance. He's skin and bones and we're working to help him out on some weight. He was severely matted, which necessitated a good clipping so he could feel better. He's settling in slowly, and we're learning more about his personality every day, but hope to find him a patient adopter who will be patient with him, get him to a healthy weight, and spoil him as he deserves! Like most shelter dogs, Rico may need a refresher on house training and crate training. We ask all of DC PAWS’ fosters to work on both house and crate training with their foster dog. The adoption fee for this dog is $250. If you are interested in adopting Rico, please submit an adoption application at http://dcpawsrescue.org/adoption-info/.DC PAWS Rescue does our best to provide accurate and complete information about our adoptable animals. Please note that we cannot make any guarantees about age or breed; we rely upon our rescue partners and their veterinarians to make those assessments. We also cannot make any guarantees about housebreaking and animal temperament, as animals can behave differently through transition and in different environments. Our shelter partners provide a basic vet screening for each animal we rescue, which includes necessary vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and spay/neuter (unless the animal is too young or otherwise deemed by the vet to not be a good candidate for surgery). Please note that this is not a comprehensive medical exam and as such, may not identify any and all medical issues, though our goal is to flag any obvious health issues through the basic vet screening. We share all medical records with adopters and flag any known issues prior to adoption finalization. About DC PAWS Rescue Our rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based dog and cat rescue in the DC area. We rescue from rural areas in the south, as well as local DC area shelters, such as Prince Georges County, MD and Wicomico County, MD. BE A FOSTER: Fosters make it possible for DC PAWS to save and care for homeless, neglected and abandoned animals! Sponsors help us provide critical medical care, food, boarding and other support for animals facing euthanasia. Individuals who sponsor a dog or cat receive special recognition on the animal's profile.  Sponsorships can also be made in honor or memory of a loved one, and you may designate to whom DC Paws Rescue should provide notice of your gift. Aislin

    Breed: Shih Apso
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 75.00. Are you wanting a happy friendly and loving little dog that isn’t all about kisses and following your every move? One that will bark when there is a reason but not just because? One that not only loves kids but wants to cuddle with the older ones (8 and older) Well meet Aislin, a 10 year old Shitzu/Lhasa Apso mix male. He is potty trained, kennel trained (although he does prefer being out) and loves to go for walks even with the kids. Aislin loves to play with other dogs his size, squeeky toys, stuffed animals…just about anything really. He is great with kids who don’t chase or grab because that can be scary for little guys. He is an older dog and does have cataracts in 1 eye but it doesn’t stop this boy in the least. He also just had a full dental. If you would like to meet this sweet senior please apply today at www.rescuerovers.org

Posted Breed: Lhasa Apso / Shih Tzu / Mixed (medium coat). Adorable llaso/shih tzu mix couple of years old. He's a feisty but playful and affectionate little guy that came to us matted to the skin and with a bulging eye that had to be removed. He still does not like to be groomed, bathed or picked up. We have no idea how long he suffered before we were able to help him. He needs a committed home and family that will keep those things in mind and not try to handle/grab him that will just scare him. He's a playful loving boy otherwise, give us a call or email to learn more about him 480.229.9530 karen@2darescue.org

    Brody Bene-C...

    Breed: Shih Apso
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shih Tzu / Lhasa Apso / Mixed (long coat). Thank You Bene-Care! Bene-Care wants to say thank you to Joyful Rescues and each and every person that volunteers their time to this amazing cause! The time and energy that Joyful Rescues commits to helping rescue animals and put them into good homes is something that Bene-Care firmly believes in! When deciding which organizations to support, Joyful Rescues rose to the top of list not only because of the cause, but we have staff that has ties either through adopting a Joyful Rescue animal or through volunteering. Each and every one of these animals deserves a loving home, and we are happy to be able to contribute to that. Bene-Care supports you! Brody was born about March 2, 2016 and weighs about 17 lbs. He ended up at the shelter a matted, overgrown, mess of hair and had to be shaved down. Upon doing so they could actually see his eyes and found out it was not only the mats of fur over the eyes causing him not to be able to see, but he has a congenital condition called microophthalmia (shrunken eye balls) and he is blind. It is what it is and cosmetically it won't hurt for a little soft fur to cover the eye sockets. It is what it is and he has always been this way so he is used to it and blind dogs do very well in life, much better than us humans. He is sweet and we love him even more because of this condition. We just know that there is someone else out there willing to give him a home where he can learn where everything is and be forever loved just the way he is. We are going to say no children only because of all the commotion and toys and things always in different places. Brody is nicely house trained. This is all we know as we will be learning as we go and so will you. The staff at the southern kill shelter doesn't ask any questions when a pet is being surrendered because it is most often financial and an embarrassment to the humans. Update from his foster mom: Brody has adjusted well to his foster home. Once he mastered the lay out of each room, he stopped bumping into things. Brody has learned step up and step down and can go up carpeted stairs with ease. He can also handle one or two steps down. Brody gets along well with the four other dogs in the home. He loves to play, go for walks and eat! He learned how to ring a bell at the door to let me know when he needs to go out. When he's nervous or startled, he may growl and/or try to nip, so he needs to be placed in a home without children. A predictable environment would be ideal for him.Brody is an amazing little dog. Although he's blind, he navigates pretty well. He's friendly and does well with everyone he meets. He was evaluated by an animal behavior specialist and she said he's a great little dog, but is timid. This can lead to him reacting to other dogs if he is feeling trapped, so a dog savvy home or an only dog home is best. He is learning left/right, step up, step down, sit and stay. He responds well with verbal praise and petting (not treats) and is doing well! At night he sleeps in a crate next to my bed and after I say, "Night, night!", I don't hear a peep from him until I get up. In the morning, he greats me with a wagging tail. He's not totally housebroken, but we're working on that. I don't think it will be long! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $175.00 However Robb Tefft has sponsored Brody's adoption fee. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY. Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption. Can't Adopt Me? We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt // // Daisie is an adorable 8 year old Lhasa Apso / Shih Tzu mix, born in approx. January of 2009, weighing 12 pounds. Daisie is primarily cream colored, and will need regular grooming to keep her looking spiffy. This little girl is blind in both eyes but has no problems quickly learning her way around. She's completely potty trained. Daisie enjoys snuggling on the couch with her foster mom and playing with her toys. She is fantastic in the company of others, enjoys sunbathing and is a real easy going girl. Upon a recent wellness check Daisie is now diagnosed with early kidney disease, she is currently doing well on the special diet. She would do best in a family with a quieter, more sedate environment, no young children and would be happy to accompany her human on daily walks. She is spayed, microchipped and current on vaccines. Her adoption fee $100 which helps Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. ♥ All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog. We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information. All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog. Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home. Thank you for visiting our dogs located at www.SecondChanceDogRescue.org
