Overview:

The Blue Gascony Griffon is a captivating and relatively rare scenthound originating from the Gascony region of France, primarily bred for hunting boar and other large game. This medium-sized breed is easily recognizable by its striking coarse, wiry, and shaggy coat, which typically comes in a "blue" mottled pattern—black patches on a white background, giving a slate-grey appearance, often with tan markings. Physically, they possess a robust and athletic build, with a distinctive long muzzle and expressive, dark eyes. Temperamentally, the Griffon is known for its intelligent, loyal, and energetic nature. While affectionate with their families, their strong prey drive and need for mental and physical stimulation make them less suited for apartment living; a home with a secure yard is ideal. They can be good with children if properly socialized, but their independent streak requires consistent training. Generally a healthy breed, potential health concerns include hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as ear infections due to their pendulous ears, requiring regular cleaning.
