Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd / Alaskan Malamute / Mixed. Hi! I'm Sampson, but my foster mom calls me Big Muffin. Although the shelter had me listed as a Great Pyrenees Mix (probably due to my size), my foster mom did a DNA test on me, and I came back as 87.5% Anatolian Shepherd (which actually makes a lot more sense). I am a healthy 110 lbs now, thanks to my wonderful foster parents! So my new family will need to be able to handle a big boy! I'm a very funny boy who loves to play and is eager to please. I get along great with other dogs, big or small, but it takes me a minute to warm up to new people. Once I get to know you though, I'm a great friend to have! I'll accompany you on any outdoor adventure and I love the car rides to get wherever we're going. I like to have a job to do, so I'll carry a back pack so you don't have to carry one on our walks. I love to explore new toys and I enjoy bones as well. I like to take them all out when I'm ready to settle in for some chew time and chew on all of them! Due to being so big, and my natural protective instincts, I will need a home with a 6' fence or higher. I'm also fully trained and am so smart, I can sometimes even anticipate what you're going to ask me to do. I'm just a gentle soul looking for a quiet home life and plenty of outdoor adventures with just me and my special person. Is that you? Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes that every pet should find a wonderful, caring home. To ensure each pet finds the best possible home, we ask that you fill out an adoption application form so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application we receive and will contact you as quickly as possible. A home visit will be scheduled before any pet is adopted to a new home. Once a home visit has taken place and the adoption application has been approved, we will ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement form. Our adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter, veterinary exams, vaccinations, microchipping, and foster care, enabling us to save more lives! Adoption fee is $80 and covers microchip, DAPP, Rabies, Heart Worm test and spay/neuter. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an adoption application here . We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email ARRColorado@gmail.com for more information, as we can not accept calls at this time. Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. 2. We'll contact you to schedule a home visit. 3. If the pet looks like a great match, fill out our Adoption Agreement online (or Foster-to-Adopt Agreement), pay the Adoption Fee, and arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: Boxer / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). As sweet as her caramel coat, grinning Roxy glows with good humor and lovability. Deeply devoted to her foster mom, when she’s not cuddling with her, she’s happily following her about the house. Bright as a doggy button, she comes when called, knows "sit", "down", "stay", "place", "come" and "off", and walks very well on a leash. Although somewhat shy when meeting new people, provided she’s introduced slowly, she soon makes them her new best friends. House and crate trained, she may not be fond of her crate, but she’s ever so fond of a calm environment coupled with a consistent routine. Now as she puts her best paw forward in search of a fur-ever home, she asks that she be the only pet and that someone be there most of the time (a person who works from home, is retired, or is an at-home parent) to share her special Roxy love. Whether exploring the outdoors or playing with her toys, this sweet, spayed, 6-year-old Shepherd mix is brimful of energy and eager to please. She adores people, thrives on their attention, and makes the most pleasing and excellent companion. Familiar with basic obedience commands and housetrained to use a doggy door, she’s extremely uncomfortable in the presence of other dogs. Posted Breed: Labrador Retriever / Basset Hound / Mixed. Hi, we're Paso (12YO female lab mix) & Dudley (11YO basset hound). We are very loving pets who have lived primarily around adults. Sadly, our person is very ill and is not expected to outlive us, so we are in need of a quiet home in which we can continue our retirement. Ideally, you would be home most of the time, and perhaps you are retired yourself! We would like a comfy home where we can lounge around, and a back yard that is good for running around. We look forward to daily walks to the park or around the neighbourhood. We need to stay together, and preferably be your only dogs.
