** We may not know what type of dog George is (he looks like a miniature Golden Retriever) but we do know he is the perfect combination of cuddly and playful! He is 25# at approximately 2 years old age and we think he may be a Golden x Beagle mix. He was rescued from a Louisiana shelter and is now looking for love up North thanks to The Chi Society. George’s foster mom says, “George loves everyone he meets! He is very social and greets “strangers” with kisses and love. He is excellent with our 13 year old son. When we wake up in the mornings, George immediately goes to look for my son. George is fostered with two other dogs and he loves to play with them. He will chase and play tug with them. He has also been around my parents’ new puppy. He played so gently with the puppy. Precious! George is also fostered with a cat who he pretty much ignores. He will get into the cat’s litter box though if given the opportunity. George has been the absolute best foster. He rarely barks. He is extremely loving. He wraps his paws around you and sticks his nose in your neck. He gives the best hugs. He likes to cuddle and to just be where you are. He is always ready for a pet or scratch behind the ears. He is not shy and greets everyone. He likes to play. I think with a little time and patience, George could learn a lot of tricks. He is just a sweetheart.I think George would do well in any type of home. He could be a lap dog with an older couple. He could run and play with kids too. He just craves attention and love. He has an abundance of love he wants to share. He starves for your attention and just wants to be close.” Please email us at TheChiSociety@gmail.com to apply for this beautiful bundle of love...:) George photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/zD1PlbHivsinlTBz1 George videos: https://youtu.be/rBgHZaxUFKM https://youtu.be/ZjEbHp2tFt0 https://youtu.be/Ys3llcj136o George is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on vaccinations, deworming and heartworm/flea prevention. All of our dogs are spayed/ neutered before adoption. Adult dogs have had their core vaccines---parvo, distemper, bordatella, and rabies, All dogs are tested and are heartworm negative. In addition they have been de-wormed and kept on heartworm prevention and flea prevention while in foster care. Most dogs come with a micr-chip already implanted. Adoption fees range from 235.00- 275.00 depending on the dog. Many times the adoption fee does not even cover the cost of all of the vetting we have done for a dog. In addition, some of our dogs are fostered in the South and come up once adopted---There is an additional transport fee for these dogs. Please contact the person listed in the bio for more information on a particular dog. We are very careful in placing our dogs--and look for the best home for each dog--All of our dogs are fostered in private homes, with fosters who get to know the dogs and know the types of home that would be best for each dog. Thank you for considering a rescued pet and we look forward to helping you find a great dog match--

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
