n his remaining eyes and has had 2 more eye drops added, for a total of 4 different ones, with a total of 11 drops daily. It was also found that the left side of his heart is enlarged and he has been put on a heart medication. The vet has recommended that if he is adopted, it should be into a home where he will be the only dog. June 2017 foster update : Zeus is up to a good weight and is a content boy. We have found that giving him a "snack" after he has been out for the night and had his eyedrops, is helping him sleep through the night. He has no eyesight and is very cautious walking around. He likes to be held sometimes but not for long periods. We have dog beds all over the house and he has a couple of favorites he moves between. He barks if he wants/needs something - you get to figure out what it is! It could mean he needs to go out, he wants water, he wants to move to a different location or he is hungry! He does need to be closely supervised in the yard due to his eyesight. February 2017 foster update: Zeus had some bloodwork done in January due to some issues he was having and is now on a special prescription diet. He is not able to have any other food or treats but is doing well with his new food. He is still adjusting to his loss of vision and appears to have none left in his remaining eye though I do believe he may see some shadow/light depending on the surroundings. I use the word "touch" when I am going to touch him and "lift" when I am going to pick him up. That helps somewhat with his startling but he tends to get "lost" in the yard as he loses his bearings frequently. He does like a good neck scratching after his eye drops. He does tend to get up pre-dawn and bark to let you know he needs to go out and that he is hungry. I have been feeding him a small amount and then he will go back to bed for a couple of hours. December 2016 foster update : Unfortunately Zeus' left eye worsened significantly and had to be removed a couple of weeks ago. His stitches are out and he is healing well and out of pain thankfully. It is now obvious that he sees very little out of his right eye and so he is having to do quite a bit of adjusting to his new world. He still gets 2 different eye drops in his remaining eye and goes to the doggy eye specialist and this will continue for the rest of his life. For his safety, he will need a home without an inground pool or stairs and one that has a fence. September foster update: Zeus was examined by an eye specialist and diagnosed with Endothelial Dystrophy in both eyes and possible Glaucoma in his left eye. He is on multiple eye drops at this time, some 4x daily, and will continue on at least some of them for the rest of his life. He does well getting around the house and his ear and skin infections are cleared up He does need medicated baths at least once or twice weekly. He spends much of the time sleeping and he eats mainly dry food. He loves to be petted and will nudge you for more when you stop. Zeus loves to lay in the sun and will go outside and just throw himself down on the driveway in the sun. We have to make him come in so he doesn't get overheated! We have multiple dog crates and beds around the house and he seems to like them all! He is cautious while getting around but finds his way where he wants to go! Poor Zeus was left outside our building. Judy got to work at 5:30 a.m. and there he was left in a carrier crate. He had nails that were so overgrown he couldn't even walk and cataracts in both eyes. Judy sent him to the vet to get checked out. He is not old our vet said about 5. He will melt your heart. He is so sweet and quiet and loves to get taken outside for a walk. If you want a lap dog this is the one. He is ready for adoption...Honestly he is such a great dog that I am shocked that he has not been adopted! Due to his limited eyesight, Zeus would do best in a home without an inground pool or flights of stairs. Also, since he startles easily, he would do best with only older, very considerate children .
