eet love. She is a lap dog, and likes to be close to her humans. She is shy at first, but warms up with trust. She loves loves to greet you when you arrive home and will do a dance and give you barks to let you know how much you were missed. she is a high energy dog, in a great way. Trixie is a lot of love in a tiny package Trixie needs to be an indoor only dog. Trixie does not seem to have ever been leash trained, so she will need to learn how to wear a harness, then slowly trained with a leash. Trixie is smart and will learn quickly. Fox terriers make excellent companions. They are smart, learn quickly and fiercely devoted to their humans. Trixie will make excellent family companion. We are recommending dog savvy, older kids only for Trixie. It also seems Trixie does not like being left alone long. If she is to be alone for 4 or more hours a day, she will do best to have a companion dog. She loves sitting by me while I am on the computer and sleeps close at nite under the covers, so she really likes to sleep with her human. Trixie adoption fee is $495.00 and covers all her vet care, spaying and a microchip, parasite control, health exam and rescue trip from California to our washington facility. To apply to adopt Trixie, please fill out our online application at: http://rompinpawsrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms Adopting a Dog requires a lot of work and is a commitment! Trixie will be an awesome addition to a family that can give her the attention, exercise, training and affection she deserves. Healthy dogs: As a rescue saving dogs from starvation, Neglect and Emaciation, RPR focus's on feeding each rescue animal the healthiest dog food made of Human Grade ingredients to help them recover from their stress and starvation. We share this with our adopters and encourage them to keep their new pet on the same foods for optimal health and a long life. OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR DOG ADOPTION: 1) These dogs are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home. 2) We give preference to applicants with prior small breed knowledge/ experiences. 3) Secure visible fencing required. 4) You must have plan in place to socialize your dog properly. 5) Please do NOT write us and ask if this dog is available. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
