ay/neutered, micro-chipped, de-wormed,heartworm tested, rabies and relevant vaccinations. NO DOG WILL BE ADOPTED TO BE AN OUTSIDE DOG! Monthly Heartworm preventative, and monthly flea/tick preventative must be administered throughout the course of the dogs life. The adoption donation of dogs may vary. Please check out each individual dogs information for the minimum donation amount. The Application can be downloaded from the website, or feel free to email to request one. www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Indepth application, references and a home check will be required before adoption is completed. Anyone wanting to adopt a German Shepherd MUST have knowledge about their needs. These are very intelligent dogs that need lots of exercise, both physically and mentally. Please discuss and consider if you are now, and will be in the foreseable future, in a financial position to provide to the dogs needs, unexpected vet bills, and common health issues specific to the breed. Fergie was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas with her mother ADELE. She is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 17 May 2017. Fergie has been listed as a Chi mix. We have no way of knowing the true breed, it is up to you to decide what you think she breed/s is. Fergie is still a puppy and is of the miniature family, she is going to be just around 7-10 pounds when grown. She will need a dedicated family that has the time and patience to work and teach her how she is expected to behave. A family who will not get angry or upset if she chews their shoes or has an accident inside. She is a baby and although very smart and responsive, she needs to be guided in her mannerisms and behavior and continue to let her beautiful personality develop. Although she is small, she is very confident and doesn't hesitate to play with the bigger puppies and even the big dogs. She can jump up on the sofa and has no trouble getting to where she wants to be. She LOVES being around other dogs and we are hoping to find a family that would either adopt her and her mother, or has another dog so she can play and have doggy fun. Fergie is a sweet, affectionate, playful, high energy (for her size) fun loving girl. She is great with other dogs and is always chasing and playing rough with them. She plays great with the other pups that are here. She has learnt to be respectful with the other adult dogs and enjoys their company. She loves to cuddle up close, I always have a laptop on my knee so doesn't get chance to sneak on my knee. At night she will snuggle up as close as she can, as long as she is touching me or one of the other dogs, that is when she is most comfortable. We do not have cats in the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around them. Fergie does go and play outside with the other pups and dogs and is very confident and if she is out there she will do her business. She doesn't know to go outside and is not yet housetrained. Fergie is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. She would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that she can burn off some of her energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. She might not be able to do a full hike, but she is light enough to be carried and would enjoy the fresh air and being surrounded by nature. She will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both Fergie and her humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. She has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. Fergie is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed. If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks. http://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org Fergie is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
