our adoption and foster applications, and detailed information about our adopting and fostering procedures. ALL OF MY PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE BELOW! 9/25/2017 UPDATE Your tennis loving boy Cody here! I am still enjoying playing with my tennis balls and playing with any kind of toy My foster mom says to tell my friends that I am a really sweet boy Honestly, I am, but I need a family who has patience and can give me a lot of attention When I am at a loss for something to do, I chew Yes, I can be a mischievous character when I chew things My family needs to keep things off the floor except for my toys which I am allowed to chew I do need those strong toys so I don't swallow bits of toy I love to wrestle, but I get so excited that I can get a little rough I probably should be in a home without little kids since I am such an energetic, strong boy I like children, and would be fine with older kids who understand me and pick up their stuff! I am a stuff magnet!!! Older kids would enjoy me, and I would love to play with them, and they could tire me out I like to sort of be the top dog, but would enjoy being in a family with other pets that let me sort be in charge I would love their company when the people in my family go out So you know that I am full of energy, and a walk at night with a family member would be great It will help settle me down for bedtime I do need help calming down a little, but once I am asleep, I am asleep! Yup, I am a good sleeper and will not bother anyone during the night I do love sleeping with my foster mom I really am a charmer Once I am awake in the morning I am ready to go My foster mom thinks I would be really great at agility training I LOVE activity, and that would be so good for me PLEASE give me a chance, and ask CSAC to meet Cody I promise you that I will be the love that you want I so want to find my new family soon I hope my new family is reading this right now, and I will be home soon I am waiting!!!! Thanks so much for reading all about me I was real honest, and even though I am not perfect (but who is?) I am worth the effort because I will ALWAYS love you Hugs, kisses, and a tennis ball toss Cody 08/13/2017 UPDATE Are you looking for a friend who always has a smile, is always in a good mood, and just loves to play? Then I am the dog for you! I am an eight year old Cockapoo with boundless energy and love for humans and dogs I was in a foster home for a little bit, but I did have a little trouble settling in and began chewing things that I was not supposed to But my foster Mom found that giving me lots of chew toys and balls helped greatly with this I am completely house trained and have not had any accidents since coming to my foster homeand my family leaves me every day while they go to work and I am still able to hold it until they come home My foster family called me their court jester because I am so funny and sillyI always make them laugh I am looking for a forever home to call my ownI hope it can be you Love, Cody MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: My name is Cody, and I just became a new CSAC pup I am so excited because I know the rescue will find me the best possible home I am a really good boy, but my family took me to the shelter because they said they did not have time for two dogs My pup sibling is still at my old home I was really sad and confused about this, but now I know that I am in the best hands ever I have some ear pain, so I know they will take care of me and get me feeling top notch I used to have to be in the crate a lot at my old home, even though I am housetrained, and they used treats to get me in the crate I now need to loose a few pounds I know once my new people give me some great exercise those few pounds will fall away I lived with three older children and was good with them No cats in the house so I don't know if I like them or not The shelter staff and my new CSAC friends say I am the cutest and friendliest boy I am always excited about what is happening and curious about things The staff say I act half my age I do have some good energy and love to play ball Tennis, that is! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE tennis balls At the shelter, I had two in my kennel and the gals saw me play with them all by myself I nudge the ball and after it rolls, I pounce! Love it But it is way more fun when I play with people I hope my new family likes tennis balls as much as I do Another thing I enjoy is belly rubs They are so wonderful If I could make a list of what my new family would like it would be to play with tennis balls and give belly rubs I really want to find my family soon so I can begin loving them and they can love me back Once you meet me, you will see what a wonderful and affectionate boy I am The girls said to remember to say how adorable and charming I am Hugs and kisses Cody the tennis star For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator Our adoption process starts with an application If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible If you can help, please donate For more information, visit wwwcockeradoptionsorg

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
