nd other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (MAR 11) from 12-2 pm at the Unleashed by Petco (5400 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22207)!!!!!! LANEY NEEDS FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Laney Best Guess for Breed: Lab mix Best Guess for Age: 8 weeks as of 3/7 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 8.4 lbs. Has Lived With: other dogs Currently Living at: COLD SCAREY SHELTER! Special adoption considerations: Young puppy who will require plenty of socialization and exercise. Due to her young age, Lacey will need to go out every few hours so would do best with someone who is home or a 2x a day dog walker! My name is Laney! I am approximately 8 week old lab mix weighing in at 8.4 lbs. My sisters, brother and I are heading to the DC area soon to start looking for our furever family. Right now, we are in a scary shelter and I'm not sure how we got here. The people are pretty nice and I have made some doggie friends, but it's really cold and loud. Sometimes my friends and I talk about how great it would be to find a furever home and people who will love us forever and ever. That would be such a dream come true! We are dreaming of living with families who will make sure that we get lots of love, plenty of walks, playtime with other dogs at the dog park and a chance to go to school so we will learn manners and become very well behaved adult dogs. I've heard that at a forever home you get a nice soft dog bed with some fun toys and some yummy treats. At a forever home you get snuggles and kisses and lots and lots of pats. Sometimes you even get to go to the dog park and on long walks to places like a beach or the mountains. It sounds too good to be true! I just can't wait! I'd really like to go to obedience school to learn my manners. I know it's very important to be polite and well-behaved. I want my forever people to be able to take me every where with them! I just love other dogs and people. I haven't met and cats or kids yet, but I'm willing to give it a try. Laney is not old enough to have had all of her vaccines. It will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that the remaining puppy vaccines are given at the appropriate time. Please also keep in mind that, until your puppy is fully vaccinated, she is at greater risk for illness than an adult dog. Due to her young age, Lacey has not yet been spayed. As part of the adoption contract, it will be your responsibility, as the adopter, to ensure that this is done no later than 7/7/18. Like most puppies, Lacey will need to work on her housetraining. Lacey will also need to go to obedience school so she can grow into a well-socialized dog! The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which includes the cost of routine vetting and transport from the shelter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
