emain together as they move forward into this next stage of their lives. They are 7 years of age, currently weighing in at about 15 lbs. Both of these babies are as sweet and lovable as can be. They also know how to use a doggie door, are cat friendly, and get along well with other dogs (large or small). In terms of medical, they are spayed/neutered; they are also up-to-date on all their shots, as well as flea and tick preventative and HW preventative. Gracie is diabetic, however, and needs insulin shos twice a day (which she readily accepts with no problem at all). While Gracie will need insulin injections every day (along with periodic sugar level monitoring), she is otherwise in great health, and so is Georgie. These two are well-adjusted little dogs. Gracie does get a little scared with thunder storms and strong winds, and will go outside during them only if her person puts her on a leash and accompanies her outside. Otherwise, she will use pee pads. Georgie is not afraid of thunder like his sister; so, he is not at all bothered by storms. These two 7-yr-young "pups" are as sweet as can be and are so very ready for a new forever home. Again, they must be adopted together; we will not separate them. If you are interested in adopting BOTH Georgie and Gracie & committing to them FOR LIFE, we welcome your application. To apply, go to http://www.safeatlast.net/. Register and then log back on with username and password to complete the Safe at Last online adoption application. After reviewing your application, we will contact you by email. So, please be on the lookout for an email from lammvogel@yahoo.com seeking to set up a time to speak with you to commence the review process. If we do not have a completed Safe at Last application from you in our system, we cannot consider you. NO exceptions. Also, you MUST be willing to come to the foster home (in Middleburgh NY) to complete the adoption - we do NOT ship or deliver our rescues. Again, NO exceptions. Thank you for considering welcoming these sweet babies into your heart and home.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
