me from different backgrounds, but when they met at their foster home, we have witnessed a very special love that grows with each passing day. You see, Ruthie, a 2 year old, 10 pound, Terrier, and Reggie, a 4 year old Min Pin mix, not only love, but need one another. Both are a tad nervous around strangers and new situations. Being together has helped them gain confidence from one another. Ruthie is the braver of the two; with a little time and a few treats, she will become your best friend. She is playful, affectionate, loves to cuddle, and has a silly side to her personality that is sure to make you smile. She plays well with dogs of all sizes and has a ball doing "zoomies" in the yard. When Ruthie arrived to PCR, Reggie quickly became her best friend, as he is one of the few dogs that keeps up with her and enjoys romping as much as she does! While Reggie was initially the more timid when it comes to strangers, he has made huge strides, simply by following Ruthie's lead. He warms up quickly and has become quite the social love bug. He, like Ruthie, loves to play with dogs of all sizes and loves to run. At the end of the day he can always be found curled up with Ruthie. Both Reggie and Ruthie have mastered "sit" and are excelling in their leash training. Because of the love they share, this darling duo is looking for a home where they can stay together. Their ideal home will have a fenced yard where they can romp and play till their heart's content. They would do best in an adult home and would welcome more canine playmates! Their foster mom states, "These are truly the most fun-loving dogs I’ve ever fostered!" They are a wonderful, loving couple that just needs an adopter who has the patience to allow them to blossom in their new home. Both are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find their forever home! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies ) , spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** To complete an online application, please click here and call Diane at 703-618-2502. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
