We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt // // Mocha is a 6 year old Mini pin/Chihuahua mix female who LOVES to cuddle. She can’t’ wait to welcome you home each day but isn’t a yapper. She gets so excited to see her owner/s that she twirls in circles and jumps up and down to show you that she is happy your home but will return to her mellow self after welcoming you. She has little funny moments that will make you smile such as her ‘Clydesdale’ impression she does when she is extremely excited. She’ll high step around which you’ll just giggle at her enjoyment in. Mocha is potty trained, great on leash, and gets along well with other dogs. She prefers a kind voice and seems to really take it to heart if you yell at her so positive reinforcement is suggested. She enjoys spending time sitting next to you or on your lap with some petting while watching a movie or TV but loves going on a walk too. Walks don’t need to be incredibly long as she has short legs but loves to sun bathe in the grass. Being a short haired dog, she doesn’t need much grooming but adores lying on a heated blanket or allow her to wear a sweater to keep her warm. At night she’ll cuddle with you or borrow under the covers to stay warmer. She’s learned how to sit, stay, and go to her bed on command. She greatly enjoys food/treats so can be used to train easily with patience. She is pure joy to have in your home and shows her obvious appreciation for having warm, safe home and an owner to love. Give her a chance and she will give you so much love. Mocha's adoption fee is $250.00 - she is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations. Please go to our website, www.secondchancedogrescue.org to complete an application to meet her! All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog. We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information. All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog. Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home. Thank you for visiting our dogs located at www.SecondChanceDogRescue.org

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
