Description
Mesa is a super smart dog, who loves to learn and work. He knows all of the basic tasks, such as sit, lay, shake, etc. He has great self-control when it comes to food and treats: he is never allowed to partake in them without a command, and he will obey every time. He also quickly picks up other commands that we don’t intend to teach lol. For example, he will go to the bathroom on command, and he understands who to take the ball to when playing fetch. He loves having a job to do, and is a great help when digging is needed in the yard. He learns tricks and tasks very quickly and loves to please. He is also muzzle trained. Mesa is super athletic. He can jump very high, and a 6-ft fence is highly recommended. Otherwise, he may escape. He LOVES fetch. Especially when it involves squeaking tennis balls. He can play fetch for hours. He doesn’t have a lot of experience in the water, but he does swim and seems to enjoy it. Mesa is stand-off-ish/uninterested with most strangers. Unless, they show excitement when meeting him, and then he matches their enthusiasm level. He can be protective though of his territory, and he does occasionally growl/bark at some strangers when they approach our home and he is leashed. However, he quickly warms up to them once he gets some sniffs and learns they are friendly. Mesa HATES the car. He barks/whines most of the time and does not do well when being left alone, even if I’m right on the other side of the window. We keep him leashed in the car because otherwise he tries to climb onto my lap while I’m driving. Mesa does not do well with being confined. When confined to the same area/space multiple times, he will start to “lash out” at one object the he views is the barrier. For example, he will occasionally bark at and try to bite our exterior gate because that is where I leave from in the morning, and it is where he gets “locked in”. Mesa has the potential to be a great dog in a fresh start. Dock diving, FastCat, or Agility prospect.
