Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hunter is an 8-month-old, male, pure bred German Shepherd. He was born in the Des Moines area on 6/13/23. Hunter is a beautiful, sweet boy that loves people and has wonderful potential. He loves to snuggle and be petted. He is full of energy and needs lots of exercise during the day. Hunter was not socialized with dogs outside of his home nor did he leave his yard before coming into rescue at the end of January. Due to this, Hunter had no idea how to interact with other dogs and would bark and lunge at them. He has been receiving professional training since the beginning of February and has made a lot of progress. He is still learning how to meet other dogs and read their cues but has made vast improvements in this area. Hunter has some anxiety and doesn't like being away from his people so he will bark for a while when he is kenneled. Hunter needs a family that can understand his needs for more experience with new things like meeting new dogs, people, and walking in the neighborhood. German Shepherds are an intelligent, loyal, working breed. They need an outlet for their physical and mental well-being. Applicants must have a plan for how to train and exercise Hunter every day to avoid his getting bored and developing undesirable behaviors as he grows into an adult dog. Applicants must be willing to sign up for our referred training program, have a fenced yard, and recent experience owning or having owned and trained a German Shepherd or similar working dog breed. APPLICATIONS RECEIVED NOT MEETING THESE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
