Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sassy is a sweet 2-year old possible terrier mix with a great personality and so much love to give! He loves people - especially those who give him belly scratches - and greets everyone with happy body wiggles and his handsome smile. Because he’s so social, he doesn't like being a kennel, and has done well with free roam while his foster mom is away. He’s also a great travel companion and loves car rides. Sassy came from Southern Iowa after his previous owner passed away and is currently in a home with other dogs - they get along great. He hasn't been around cats, but with his curious and friendly demeanor, he should do well with slow introductions. Because he can be a little demanding for attention, he would do better with older, animal respectful children to help remind him of proper manners. He’s still working to understand commands, but will do great with continued training and positive reinforcement. If you’re looking for a snuggly couch potato who is ready to make you his whole world, this is your guy. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
