Posted Breed: Great Pyrenees / Shepherd. Kala is a gorgeous Great Pyrenees who recently came to us with her pup Tarzan, after being surrendered to Central Valley SPCA. Kala spent a few months in a foster home where she was pampered and loved and where she became very attached to her hooman. So attached, that she became jealous of the attention paid to the other dog in the home. Kala was then placed in a new foster home. See the comments from her new foster Mom below. Kala is a very sensitive, loving dog who wants to be with people as much as possible. When she wants your attention, she takes her paw and taps you with it and looks up at you with the sweetest expression on her face. Kala is her happiest when she is hanging out with her favorite people and her saddest when she is by herself. She loves to go for walks and walks vey nicely on a leash. She has met many dogs at Jelly's Place and gives very nice, pro-social greetings. Kala's new foster Mom said this about her: "Kala has a very quiet and calm personality and likes nothing better than to be petted and hugged. She will bond quickly to her human. She walks very well on a leash except for a few initial stubborn moments that lessen with bonding. She is also a good jogging partner if starting at a good pace. Kala is perfect with cats, choosing to completely ignore them. She has been fostered as an indoor dog with one cat and five adults. She generally sleeps well through the night. Barking has not been an issue. When kept outside, she may respond to other dogs in the neighborhood but when inside or when workmen come, she'll bark an alert and then remain quiet. She is really very appropriate. Kala likes rides in the car and will run and play in a fenced yard. She is clean and sheds less that expected. She doesn't slobber or lick. She is shy with other dogs at the dog park but does not show aggression. She did really on the second visit. When placed with her foster family, Kala was not house trained. Progress has definitely been made with no accidents in the last several days. " The perfect family for Kala would be an active family with kids and a big backyard and where someone is home all the time. Experience with the breed is essential. Kala would love to take long walks, go on hikes, run around the backyard with the kids or cuddle on the couch watching TV or movies. Kala is UTD on vaccinations, and has been spayed and microchipped.
