Posted Breed: Hound / Mixed. Sweet Stewie! Where is your hero? This handsome boy is Stewie. He was brought into the shelter after escaping his chain and digging in the front yard. When staff and volunteers inquired about his name we were told that he hadn't been given one and that he had just been called "Stupid". Our first move was to give him a name that would fit his adorable face and sweet personality, which started at Stewart and ended with "Stewie", because we thought it represented the innocence that seems to surround him. On first arrival, he had to be coaxed into the building, which also leads us to believe that he was never given the chance to be inside of a home. We hope that someone out there will give him that chance! In order to give this guy a fair shake, anyone coming for a meet and greet should be prepared to spend a little bit of time out of the kennel letting him get his energy out. He is all hound, so he loves to be vocal! He could also use some work on his leash manners. All Stewie needs is a family with patience and love. Are you that family? Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
