Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Meet Luna! This gorgeous little pup was the product of an accidental litter. Her dad is a German Shepherd and her mom a smallish pit mix. Sadly her mom died when Luna was 3 days old so she has been bottle fed. Luna is the best pup! She loves people and is great with other dogs. Of course, she is a typical puppy and explores the world with her teeth at this age. She learns quickly and is well on her way to being potty trained. She is going to grow up to be a big girl and needs a home with a yard. Kids over 8 will be best for her. She has not been around cats but at this age she can learn. Luna is a on a puppy vaccination schedule and will be de-wormed and chipped. She will be spayed at our cost between 8-12 months of age. Her adoption fee is $525 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
