Adoptable in: MA, RI, NH, CT, and VT Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes Good with kids: Yes, dog-savvy kids Crate trained: Mostly House trained: Mostly Cherlyn is a sweet, laid-back girl who’s looking for endless cuddles and a good squeaky tennis ball in her forever home. She is a playful pup with medium energy and is also content to just settle on the couch or on her bed nearby. Cherlyn would likely do best in a quiet, patient home with a yard outside the city. She gets along with dogs of all sizes, both large and small. Cherlyn gets along well with the resident dog in her current foster home. She was previously fostered in a home with cats and has had no issues with them. Cherlyn has done well interacting or being near infants and young children. Because she is a bit shy and needs some time to get to know her humans, she’d do best in a home with dog-savvy children. Cherlyn is mostly crate trained and house trained. She has made remarkable progress getting acclimated to being crated. Cherlyn will go in the crate for a treat, her favorite being a peanut butter-filled kong. She may cry for a few minutes at first but settle quickly. Cherlyn sleeps in her crate overnight with no issues. She has been improving her leash manners and will benefit from continued training. Cherlyn is an affectionate, chill pup who loves being with her humans. As she comes out of her shell and gains more confidence, she will make a great addition to any family! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
