Posted Breed: Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier (long coat). Monroe is a fun, energetic, and vibrant 6 year-old purebred soft coated wheaten terrier. We took him as an owner surrender because he was nipping at children visiting the home. Monroe is a wonderful dog who is affectionate and playful with his people. He would do best with another playful dog. Monroe can be very fearful and will need an experienced adopter. He will need a quiet home with someone willing to give him plenty of patience and time to help him adjust. He is a great walk most of the time but if scared he will need to return home immediately. Monroe is good in the car, house-trained and well behaved in the home. ***** A single family home with a fenced in yard and no children is required***** If you are interested submit an application at njshpetrescue * You must live within 90 minutes of Chester NJ to be considered as an in-person home visit is required for all adoptions.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
