Posted Breed: Entlebucher / Mountain Dog / Mixed. Say hello to Edgrrr! This three-year-old mountain dog has stolen the heart of his foster mom with his precious, expressive face and snuggly personality. And as much as he loves his foster home, he just knows his forever family is out there somewhere. Edgrrr is great on a leash AND in the crate. He's a very observant fella, so he likes taking in the sights with his people, whether it be on an outdoor patio for brunch or at the park on the weekends. When he gets a burst of energy, he will run around for a few minutes and then flop down on the couch in exhaustion. What a silly guy! Edgrrr's ideal home is a quiet one where his family will lavish attention and love on him. He loves to snuggle with his humans on the couch and gives great hugs! He would prefer to be the only dog, as he does not like other dogs in his face, but he could accept a friendly female companion. He also needs a family who can build his confidence as he can get nervous if he's unsure about someone or something. Could that family be yours? All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. The standard minimum donation for dogs over six months is $200, and puppies under six months is $250, unless specified otherwise. A.K.A. : A mongrel, mixed-breed dog
Overview: A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.

More About Mutt Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Posted Breed: German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Say hello to Gerry! This Shepherd-mix pup is all smiles, and you can't help but smile when he's around! His head size may cartoonishly exceed his body, but his heart is bigger than his head! Gerry is quite the survivor! Despite all of the adversity, he still somehow maintains a strong desire to love and trust. Now he's getting lots of training and snuggles in a foster home, where his favorite place to cuddle up is in his foster's arm pit! Gerry is sharpening his good-boy skills by learning how to walk properly on a leash, figuring out a range of commands, and getting more and more comfortable with his crate. He even goes in to hang out on his own now! As for toys, he loves squeaky today or a good rawhide chew. He has a low-to-medium activity level, so he lives for cuddles with his humans and nap time! His foster loves how laid-back and affectionate Gerry is. Gerry's ideal home is one where he's the only pup or where there's just one other dog. His forever family should gear up for endless cuddles and kisses from this guy! Want some Gerry snuggles in your life? Apply to adopt him today! He was found abandoned at an apartment complex, but is now living in a great foster home getting lots of love, attention, and exercise. No, really…he does exercise videos with his foster mom! Freckles can be shy at first, but becomes your best friend with a head scratch. He's not a big snuggler, but he does love to sit next to his people when lounging on the couch. He loves going on walks and for rides in the car - his face lights up with excitement! While he doesn't show much interest in toys, he does love to explore the outdoors. If that's not an option, he likes to exercise with his foster mom! He follows along with the exercise videos and even rolls on his back for crunches! Freckles would love a home with another dog; big or small, he loves them all. He would also LOVE a backyard to explore, and preferably one with some squirrels he can chase! Posted Breed: Rottweiler / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Handsome Hank! He is a 4 year old Rottweiler mix, who found himself in the shelter after being hit by a car. Luckily for him, he is on the road to recovery in a loving foster home. Despite Hank’s healing injury, he still gets around just fine and walks well on leash. He crates in his kennel with no problem, and primarily likes to lay around and be near his humans. He is fond of all the other household pets he has met in his current foster home, including the cats! His play time is limited while he heals, but he enjoys the company of the other canines in the home very much. Hank is pretty smart – he responds when you call him, and is learning other basic commands. He thoroughly enjoys chomping on his nyla-bones, too. Hank has a beautiful shiny black coat with brown accents around his paws and belly, and cute floppy ears to round out his appearance. When he pants, he has the most unique black spot right in the middle of his tongue! It's really quite adorable… Hank is a friendly, happy and carefree guy, despite the setbacks in his life. He is the perfect houseguest and doesn’t jump on people or climb on furniture. He will do well in a household as a single dog, or part of any pack! All in all, Hank is an all-around winner! Don’t hesitate, apply to adopt him today! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Meet Molly! She is a 4 year old Pittie mix with soft, white and brindle fur. Molly was found as a stray with heartworm and breast cancer. Thankfully, she is a strong pup and was successfully treated for both. Miss Molly-Moo is as sweet as they come. She loves to be loved on! Whatever her human is doing, she wants to be in the middle of the action, always leaning in for a pet. When she’s not napping nearby, she is quietly people-watching out the window or playing with one of her favorite toys. Though Molly does like a good game of tug-of-war, she also loves running after a toy and taking it back to her spot on the couch to nibble. She can often be spotted just carrying around her stuffed taco or using her hedgehog as a pillow! Molly is great with all kinds of people and is so patient with kids. Her tail starts to wag when someone even looks at her; it becomes a blur when someone reaches out to per her! She would do best in a home where she is the only pet. Molly isn’t a huge fan of cats, and she is selective with dogs and needs some time to warm up to them. This girl is crate-trained, but can also be left out at night and for short periods during the day. She is housetrained, though she does best when given frequent bathroom breaks outside with a little motivating treat. Molly seems to look forward to her short morning walks. She’s working on mastering her leash skills, as she sometimes gets too excited and pulls a little, especially when another animal is spotted. With her loyalty, her sweet personality, and her endearing characteristics, Molly will make the perfect pet for a loving family. Who can say no to those amber eyes and expressive ears?! Apply to adopt Molly today! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. Posted Breed: Chihuahua / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 100.00. Say hello to Princess Peach! According to her foster mom, this silly girl who is the dog version of Velcro! She's a mutt, possibly part chihuhua, weighing in at 18lbs. And, for being an older dog, she has a young energy and spirit! Peach walks well on a leash and is house trained and crate trained, and has even learned how to use the doggy door! She even likes to spend time and relax in her crate even if she doesn't have to. She enjoys her alone time in there to play with her favorite toys - the louder the toy, the better! She might not be the best at fetch, but she sure loves her squeaks! More than anything, Peach wants to just be near her humans, and lights up when they are close. She will even climb up into your lap for pets, before going back to her squeaker toys! Peach gets along with other dogs, including big dogs (so long as they are on the calmer side like she is). Since she is blind, rambunctious dogs tend to startle her. She is great with kids though, even babies and toddlers! This precious girl lost her eyesight at a young age, but she's got so much love to give! Her new family will love her affectionate but silly nature, and she will love being a part of a family. So it's a win-win for everyone! Want to give this loving gal the furever family she deserves? Posted Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 200.00. Hello world! My name is Gem, and it certainly fits - there's no other pup out there just like me! From my puppy-dog eyes and little white beard to my tail that never stops wagging, every ounce of my pittie mix body just wants to love and be loved. I have a little limp, but that doesn't stop me at all when I'm running around with other dogs, big or small! I am learning to love my crate, and I already know how to let my humans know when I have to go outside to do my business! My ideal day centers around one thing: you. I love to be near you and see what you're up to (and if you want to pet me while you're at it, I certainly won't complain!) And I love other dogs, too! While it would be great to have a fur sibling, I'll be just fine on my own, as long as I'm able to get some exercise every day. And if you have kids, even better! I'm not a big fan of cats, though, so a home without any feline buddies would be best. Apply so you can meet me, and see just how much of a "gem" I am! Gem is available for pre-adoption only at this time, as she is heartworm positive. Heartworm disease is a non-contagious and treatable condition in dogs, but is fatal if left untreated.
