Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed. To adopt please fill out an adoption application. Mama is a 2yo female terrier mix who was rescued just in time from the Memphis Kill Shelter. She had been picked up from the streets of Memphis along with her young pup who was adopted immediately. However, when Mama was placed on the Urgent Euthanasia List, rescue rushed right down to get her out of the shelter. Friendly, well-socialized, happy temperament. Fine with kids and recommended for children 12 years and older just due to her size and exuberance. Good with other dogs. Not cat tested. Medium energy level outside, quiet and well-mannered in the house. Crate trained and housebroken. Obeys basic commands. Loves to be with her people. Good on a leash, rides great in the car. When she was rescued, Mama had heartworms but she was treated without complications and completely cured. Estimated DOB is Sept 2021. Healthy and fully vetted, current on shots, spayed, weighs about 50 pounds. Sweet young dog will make a wonderful companion (and jogging partner) for an active family that loves the breed. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
