Posted Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Raleigh, NC. Have you gone to see Kansas yet? No, not the state, but this sweet boy right here at ACDRA! Kansas is a SWEET boy who has come a long way in foster care since September and being rescued from Georgia! He lives with 6 cats and two other male resident dogs, and another male foster dog. When he was boarded, he played well with a female ACD- so dogs aren't a problem. He doesn't know "couch" life or "beds" extremely well and truly prefers his kennel a lot at home by choice. His prior life must've not been the best by any means and is slowly overcoming his fears and he's doing extremely well! Every day he is improving and with the more trips/exercises we do to work on helping him build confidence, the better he gets. He will likely still always be a timid dog true to heart, but he can now greet other dogs and humans happily, get excited without fear something bad will happen and he truly has a new meaning of life! Kansas sleeps throughout the night like a perfect boy (kenneled) and has never soiled his kennel. Always super quiet in his kennel and just observes. Not much of a barker. He travels well in a car (kenneled). He would do well in a QUIET home environment. He would probably prefer not a lot of trips outside of home so someone who doesn't need a high energy cattle dog is fitting. He would still enjoy a short hike for a few miles or walk at your local greenway trial but it isn't a necessity for him everyday in terms of energy. No young children, not because he isn't gentle, because he is, but young children brings noise, and I don't want the noise to set him back in any way. Perhaps, there is a low key family out there with a fenced yard, who enjoys being a homebody and gardening and doing home-y things and would love to have a home body type cattle dog who doesn't require much. When he does get excited, he can bounce high! Kansas should always have a kennel offered to him. This is TRULY his safe space and should always have this available and he shouldn't be neglected out of that choice. While Kansas likes toys and will steal several and bring them to his crate, be warned, NEVER leave him unattended with a toy- he will INGEST it whole in body piece parts. His new home should understand the value of patience. . They should understand he will take a lot of time to come around. He is very sweet, and just doesn't want to be harmed or yelled at and wants to be a good boy who gets all the bestest snackies and be home with a family that loves him. An interested adopter should: Understand the meaning of patience Not have a lot of dogs (But, I'd prefer at least one, but its not required) Cats approved!
