Posted Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed. Axle is a gorgeous young neutered Belgian Malinois who weighs about 80 pounds. He was on the Kill List at the Contra Costa County Animal Shelter, along with his sister, Bella because they were both very timid and scared. Axle was terrified in the Shelter, but did allow himself to.be leashed and taken outside. He showed NO defensive or offensive aggression. Axle was probably undersocialized and had limited exposure to dogs, other than his sister Bella. Axle is a true gentle giant with the biggest heart and the most soulful eyes. He has the sweetest, most loving personality and is so happy to be with his special people. He is wonderful in the car and just curls up in the seat next to you whether the ride is 5 minutes or 2 hours. Like his sister, Axle loves chasing balls, playing tug of war and munching on treats. There is a high likelihood that Axle is potty trained or close to it. Axle is very eager to please and will make a terrific family dog for an active and dog savvy family. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
