Posted Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Pierogi is quite the dumpling. This big boy is full of energy and would love a home who will play with him and continue his training. Pierogi has completed a 12-week training program with New Leash on Life USA, and a 3-week program with Best Paw Forward, who will provide lifetime support for him. Pierogi is a large and strong dog and would benefit from a yard where he can get all of his energy out, or a strong handler who can take him on frequent walks. He loves chewing on toys and playing tug, and is also a belly rubs connoisseur. Pierogi loves playing with other large, playful dogs, but he sometimes doesn't know when to stop playing. Because of this, Pierogi would do best as the only pet in a home. Pierogi is a very sweet and goofy dog and is patiently waiting to find his forever home! His adoption fee is sponsored.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
