Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Hi I’m a 4 year old, 55 lb Cattle Dog mix named Clara and my favorite thing is snuggling with my foster dad! I am all about loving my people and I am a very good girl although and vary between lazy and playful. I’m housebroken, crate trained and really prefer male dogs only. Other amazing things I have discovered in rescue are being petted and scratched, especially behind my ears. I aim to please my humans and always make sure I listen to them so I get my favorite thing in the whole world--affection! I should tell you that I lived for 2.5 years in a dog kennel run in boarding so I do love being free and in a fenced yard. I just know my perfect family is out there for me. I’m spayed, fully vetted and vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped, and ready for my happy ever after! Adoption fee is $300. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you. Thank you for choosing adoption!!

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
