Please contact Monica R Larner (cowdogrescuegmail), (989) 330-5147 for more information about this pet. 11-2-19 Melvin comes into rescue from a Southern Michigan shelter where he had been since March 2019. It was told to us that he was originally trapped and then brought to the shelter. He is 3-5 years old (best guess) and is very overweight. He doesn't walk well on leash, but is learning with treats. He has great eye contact, which is good to see. Please Note: First, we ask that you fill out the adoption application if you are interested in one of our dogs. We can only answer questions about the adoption process, before the application. Then during the phone interview (step two of the application process) we can answer more questions based on what your application has on it. If you email questions without doing an application, we will not be able to give you a good answer. There are too many variables which we look at when matching up dogs. Thank you for helping us to help you, and ultimately help the dogs looking for the right home. Our adoption fee ($250) covers the age appropriate spay / neutering, heart worm testing, rabies, distemper combo, microchipping and any other necessary medical that a dog may need. Prospective adopters who have submitted an accepted application and completed a telephone interview are welcome to schedule an appointment to travel to meet the dog. If approved for adoption, a deposit will hold the dog until a meeting or transport is arranged. AuCaDo Rescue does welcome out of state adoptions. We require an approved application, phone interview, photos and willingness to travel to meet the dog. AuCaDo Rescue is located in Remus, Michigan.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
