Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Forever Home Wanted!!! Meet Josie!!! Josie is a sweet, smart 1-year-old Shepherd mix who gets along well with dogs of all sizes and ages, adults, and older, respectful kids. Josie is house trained and crate trained, walks well on a harness, knows basic commands, and even knows a few tricks. She enjoys training and has done a few sessions of agility. In the house, she gets the occasional zoomies (like all young dogs) but otherwise enjoys simply hanging out with her family. During naptime, her unique, pretzel-like sleeping positions will charm you. Josie loves long walks, playing fetch, playing with other dogs, and cuddling with her humans. She is very playful, and will quietly entertain herself if given access to her favorite toys. Her favorite way to play is while laying on her side! And if you're looking for someone to be your companion while out and about, Josie is your girl; she has done well at restaurants and other busy public spaces, and has no problem getting there because she is great in the car. Josie is anxious when approached by exuberant young kids, and thus would do best in a home with adults and dog-savvy teens. Josie is looking for a family that will give her daily exercise, regular adventures, and lots of love. Could that family be yours? Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
