Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 300. Do you love the shy dogs, and appreciate the thrill when you help them come out of their shell? Then I'm the dog for you! My name is Tabula Rasa, which my fosters named me because I'm looking to start over with a blank slate. I'm a female 24lb 1.5 year heeler mix (best guess) and I love to get loves! My foster thinks I had a rough start to life because the world is a bit scary right now. I love being with my “pack” of dog friends and they help me learn to dog and bring out my playful side. I'm still figuring out that pottying outside is best, but getting better every day. I'm a bit underweight, but I love food so that shouldn't take long to correct. I'm excellent at car rides, so taking me places to build my confidence will be a breeze! I currently live with cats and small children and do great with both. I'm gentle and love pets. I would do best in a home with another dog to help me continue to learn and feel safe. I do well in my crate at night and howl a little when crated during the day. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
