Description
Posted Breed: Unknown breed (short coat). Two-year-old Maverick was brought home to his family when he was a puppy but only recently he had become intolerant of the small children in the home. He is now looking for a new home without small children. He is a big boy weighing in at a whopping 104 pounds! He is house trained and has high energy. He loves to run, chase tennis balls and play. It has taken time for him to become comfortable with many of us at VBACAC but that's ok! I was easily able to leash him and lead him outside. We had fun running and chasing. He is definately an active and energetic boy! He is still a bit nervous with you reach over his head but time, patience and understanding will allow him to gain that trust in you and then the phrase 'man's best friend' will absolutely apply! When it comes to other dogs, he needs proper introductions and even then, he seems to like only other big dogs. He is not good with smaller animals, and for sure, no cats. Maverick is currently in a back kennel waiting for a spot in front so if you don't see him, please just ask! VBACAC 341 S Birdneck Road, VB Open daily 12-5 pm

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
