Description
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 375. Please contact Donna for more information about this pet. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Merida is her ARF name, but Flora is the name she knows. Originally adopted from ARF as a puppy, she finds herself in need of a new home. She is one of the sweetest, 80-pound cuddle bugs you’ll ever meet. She is about 18 months old. She loves her humans so so much, and she will need to live with an all-human family. She’s a huge lover of the outdoors - she lays on her dog bed outside for hours basking in the sun & honestly enjoys the winter months more we think. She knows some basic commands (sit, wait, lay down, settle - her word for a cute side sploot) and is very treat motivated to learn more. She absolutely loves cuddling up for some belly rubs and her favorite thing in the world - head scratches; this abundance of love for you may make her a bit excited when you come home so she may jump up to greet you, then she settles within a few moments. This abundance of love for you is also a reason she will need to be in a solo-dog home; she unfortunately does not do well sharing her humans with another love bug. There is currently a 60-pound high schooler in the home that she also loves; she has not been around younger children. She would live her best life with a family with no other pets and one that understands she still has her sweet playful puppy energy. She would love to go on long walks or runs, as long as her human is fast enough to keep up with her long legs. If not, a good fenced back yard will be a great, needed space for her to get her running in. The picture-perfect family for Flora would be active humans that enjoy the outdoors and are waiting to devote their love to one pup for the rest of her sweet life. This pup is micro-chipped and up to date on all vaccinations, housetrained and spayed. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. The pup's adoption fee is $375. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an online application today! .arf-il/adopt/application/ Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Thank you for considering a rescue pet from A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation! We are based in Wheaton, IL and conduct adoption events in the DuPage County area. If you are interested in adopting one of our pets, please submit an adoption application at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Adoption appointments are scheduled based on the order of applications received, so submit your application early! Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions or schedule meetings until your application has been approved. More information about our adoption process can be found on our website here: .arf-il/adopt/ As an all-volunteer, foster home-based organization, A.R.F. Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. Please visit .arf-il/events/ for a list of our upcoming adoption events. Thank you for choosing to adopt, not shop!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
