He’s a lower-energy dude who enjoys walks and swims but is happy to just hang out. Wesley will thrive in a home where his chill vibe is appreciated. Wesley is happy to meet new people, though he’s kind of a cool kid and won’t run right up to say hello. He’s done very well with the older, dog-savvy kids he’s met. Wesley really enjoys the company of other dogs and would love to have a canine companion and playmate in his new home. When he isn’t swimming or napping, he enjoys chewing on bones. Wesley is a very smart boy who already knows “sit,” “shake,” “lay down,” and “kennel.” He may take a few minutes to settle once he’s in his crate, but then he does well. Wesley is house trained, and he’s fantastic on his leash and enjoys going on walks. Continued training will be fun and easy with this clever boy! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
