Posted Breed: Terrier / Hound / Mixed. Adoption Fee: $250.00. Meet Dale! He was hit by a car over a year + ago. The vet said the outcome would’ve been better for him if he was treated asap once he was hit. Dale injured his spine when he was hit by a car in Costa Rica. He was living on the farm in Costa Rica with lots of other dogs. A few months before coming to the US he lived at home with a vet in order to get laser therapy more frequent, which were continuing here along with acupuncture. Long term we hope he improves with continued physical therapy but it’s not a guaranteed due to how long ago his injury to was. He gets around great in a wheelchair, that’s how he got the name Dale (Earnhardt). Out of the wheelchair he gets around pretty well. He wears a belly band in the house to prevent accidents and he will use the doggie door. Personality wise he LOVES attention from anyone who will give it to him. He’s a huge snuggler and will follow everyone around the house, just to stay close to them. He does great with kids and is being fostered with 12 other dogs. He deserves a chance at a real place to call home after having such a rough start. He is 1 of 8 dogs saved from Costa Rica and we hope we can give him a second chance at a great life. He will need a home that can continue with acupuncture and laser therapy. Please fill out an application on our website so a meet/greet and home check can be arranged. His adoption fee is $250.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
