    Tarlton

    verified

    rescue
    Breed: Anatolian Shepherd
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Senior
    Location: Kanab, UT
Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd (short coat). Tarlton had a rough life before he came to Best Friends. He was named for the construction yard where he was found. Perhaps because of something in his rugged past, he shows some guard dog behavior. He needs a slow introduction to new people, but once he gets to know them, Tarlton becomes the most affectionate dog. He loves to give slobbery kisses and to climb in people's laps, even though he really doesn't fit. Tarlton was born in 2006 and is on a special diet for allergies. He knows tricks like 'roll over,' 'twirl' and 'crawl.' He's a world-class cuddler and bed-hog, though he also enjoys long walks. Tarlton will make an amazing friend for a dog-savvy person who can give him a little guidance. He's a sensitive guy who craves love, and he can't wait to give his heart to someone special. Tarlton is part of our Single Pets* program! That means that he is eligible for a free flight home and waived adoption fee! *Single pets do best as the only dog or cat in the home.

    Ollie

    rescue
    Breed: Anatolian Shepherd
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: Kanab, UT
Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd (medium coat). Ollie is shy with strangers, but once you're his friend he'll show you only the deepest dedication. He overcomes his worries quickly, so all he needs is a little time to become someone's best bud. Ollie was born in 2013, and he loves the great outdoors. He walks perfectly on a leash, enjoys having some space to roam around in and would make a fantastic running partner. Ollie has come a long way since he came to the Sanctuary, and he can't wait to find a home where he can continue to overcome his anxieties and increase his confidence. He'd also prefer to be someone's one and only, though he may be able to live with the right dog. If you're ready to turn this shy boy into your very best friend, Ollie would love to meet you. Ollie is part of our Single Pets* program! That means that he is eligible for a free flight home and waived adoption fee! *Single pets do best as the only dog or cat in the home.

    Maui

    rescue
    Breed: Anatolian Shepherd
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: Yakima, WA
Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd / Boerboel Mastiff (medium coat). Please take the time to read the entire profile. We spend alot of time putting as much info in them as possible. Thank you in advance. Maui- Maui is a stunning fawn Kangal boerboel mix girl. She has natural ears and tail. She is a big girl and growing fast. She is still young and really just needs a great home that can let her blossom. She really wants to be someone’s best friend but has not had any leadership in her past. She came to us very scared of most things, but has come so far and now just needs a home that can continue to work with her. She is a great girl for a home experienced with gaurdian breeds. She is really a sweet girl who has spent so much time in rescue and deserves a home of her own for once in her life. Kona and Maui came to us from a local shelter. They had been surrendered when they were abandoned at the previous owners home when his room mate got them as puppies and then moved with out them. He had stated that he would be coming back to get them and never did. So the dogs were never given any training, guidance, and were pretty much left to do their own thing. They came to us really thin, with upper respiratory, and needing a lot of training. We are so glad that we can work with amazing shelters like this one and give these two a chance at a great home. Maui came to us from a home where she had no training at all. She has come so far and we are thrilled to watch her blossom. She is a big girl and getting bigger and bigger. She had a pretty nasty case of upper respiratory when she came in, but that has cleared up and we are starting to see her personality. She is a happy girl who really wants to have a good time. She has learned the basic things and is much less of a bull in a china shop then her brother and has even been around a few kids and done well. She is not aggressive in any way but can be indifferent with new people. She is good with dogs as long as they are not fearful and skittish. Which is normal for her breed. She loves to hang out, be outside and just be with her family. She is an amazing dog who just needs a great home. She is not a fit for a Livestock guardian, so we will not be placing her in a home as a working dog Maui is up to date, dewormed, flea treated, altered, and micro chipped. She is working on basic commands, house breaking and doing well with crate training. When she first came in she did not like her crate at all, and had very little training. She has come so far. She loves to hang out and still is new at going for walks. She loves to play with toys and will toss her stuffy around for herself. She is a smart girl who really wants to know that she has a family that loves her. She has been working on basic training and we would love a family that can continue the work that we have been doing with her. She is a great girl. We spend a lot of time trying to get to know the dogs in our program as best as we can. This means that we have spent time introducing them to dogs, cats, kids, animals, people and as many things as we can. We try to do as much as we can to evaluate them, both with in our group and if the dogs come from other rescues or shelters their evaluations as well. However dogs are individuals and will react to different situations differently. This means that we do not know how a dog will react in every situation. We give out our best guess based off information provided but the handler of a dog and the way they are introduced to a situation makes a huge impact. So if you have any questions of how to introduce a dog to your home, please let us know and we will provide as much info as we can from pamphlets to helping find a trainer in your area. Our rescue aims to help dogs who are passed by and over looked by most rescues and people. We help the dogs who are in need of medical care, vetting, training and breeds that most will not help with. In most shelters if you are large dog, a big dog, or a male dog; from the moment you walk in you are on barrowed time. If you have docked ears or are a guardian breed your time was over before you walked in the doors. We aim to save these dogs and give them a second chance. Please help us save more lives by helping with our medical bills as they grow. This year has already been hard and we have many medical dogs in need. https://www.gofundme.com/v2eap2f8 If you would like to adopt this pet please send us an email. Applications will be sent to you via email. We do our best to get back to emails in 24 hrs. If it has been longer then that please resend another email. We would love to hear from you. We welcome any questions that you may have. Our goal is to find the right fit for every home, not just any home! We have been informed that some of the links to email us regarding our adoptable dogs are not working. This has been on going for a few weeks with petfinder and a few other links. If you find this to be an issue that you are having please send an email directly to us at: RisingPhoenixWa@aol.com If you are inquiring on a specific pet we do ask that you put the name of the pet in the subject line. So we know who it is that you are inquiring regarding. Thank you in advance for understanding as we work through this. As with any rescue we are always in need of donations. MANY of our dogs come in with special needs or medical issues. These need to be resolved before going home. If you would like to make a donation toward a dogs medical care you can use our paypal address RisingPhoenixWa@aol.com you can also email us for a physical address. We are always in need of dog food, soft food for some of our special needs dogs, collars, leashes, crates, and toys!

    Kona

    Breed: Anatolian Shepherd
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Young
    Location: Yakima, WA
Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd / Boerboel Mastiff (medium coat). Please take the time to read the entire profile. We spend alot of time putting as much info in them as possible. Thank you in advance. Kona- Kona is a stunning young Kangal, Boerboel mix. He is a stunning fawn color and more resembles the Kangle side of his genes. He has natural ears and tail and once he fills out he is going to be a big boy. He is a stunning dog and really just needs a home with a family that understands his needs. He is going to need a home that is experienced with dominate breeds and can work with him. He is a great dog in the right situation he wants to be someones best friend, protector and playmate. Kona is a great dog once he gets some one on one time. He has proven to follow his guardian breed instincts and loves to be outside and patrolling his property. He is great with people that he knows but can be aloof with new people. We have never seen any aggression with people but he does bark and let you know if something is off. He has been exposed to other animals and is doing well with them but is not a livestock guardian, he missed those genes, and will not be placed as one. He likely would not do well with chickens ect if unsupervised. But is going to take time to adjust to them as he had no prior experience with them. He does good with other dogs who are large and bigger, and does want to play, but also doesn’t like dogs who are fearful. So another dog would do well, but they need to be the right fit. He does best with kids over 10 as he can be pushy. He is a great dog who is still a pup at heart and just needs a home that can give him the things he needs. Kona is up to date, dewormed, flea treated, altered and micro chipped. He is house broken, crate trained, does ok on leash and is currently working on basic commands and socialization. We would like to find him a home that can keep working on these things. He is a big guy and still growing. When he fills out he will be a big dog. He has not shown any health issues and is over his URI infection and getting better each day. He does love to hang out, patrol his home and be with his people. He is a great dog who just needs a home that can work with him and continue his training. We spend a lot of time trying to get to know the dogs in our program as best as we can. Kali

    Breed: Anatolian Shepherd
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Young
    Location: Whitewright, TX
Posted Breed: Anatolian Shepherd (short coat). Our best guess is that Kali is an Anatolian Shepherd, or perhaps a Great Pyrenees/Anatolian mix. She has double dew claws which are more common in Pyrs than in Anatolians. Kali was dumped in a rural area in Sapulpa, Oklahoma but lucky for her she was taken in by a Good Samaritan who took care of her until she could find a rescue. Kali never had to go to the shelter, thank goodness. Kali loves playing with the other dogs in her foster home, but she also loves attention from her human family. She hasn't quite grown out of all her puppy behavior, so she needs lots of chew toys. Her adopter needs to be prepared to put away shoes and books and anything else that might tempt a young dog. She is doing well with her house-training and crate-training and most nights, sleeps in the house without being inside the crate. Kali loves splashing and playing in the little blue wading pool. She is also very athletic, and has been in a home where she goes jogging every day. Kali would do best in a home with another young dog to play with, or with someone who is home most of the time. If left at home alone, we worry that she would get bored and wreak havoc.
